“And unanimously has that election, and most happily has that consecration, been effected.”

I am honestly calling for a general strike and refusal to use vocationhub. We had a non- functional system for the last 15 years why continue the sunken cost fallacy with yet another non-functional system?

We also can’t discount the dysfunction and trauma, frankly, that are some funerals and the damage they have can cause people.

My uncle once told me no funeral and I said “What are you gonna do about it, you’ll be dead and if you haunt me I’ll go exorcist on you.” Then we laughed and I told him the funeral is also about those who grieve and love you, not just about you. So we eventually agreed to an acceptable service…

Since this was an interim in a church not in full communion, needed permission of my bishop - and that’s what he told me. (I always tell my students the canons say you need to obey your bishop, not that you need to agree with your bishop.)

yeah I once did a short-term interim position in a Presbyterian Church and as I left his office after getting permission my bishop literally ran down the hall after me to add, "Oh btw do not confirm anybody or ordain any deacons or elders!"

I took my mother off ventilator Jan 2021 and watched her die from the Covid that destroyed her lungs and caused her brain to swell.

F**k all conspiracy a**holes everywhere who are incapable of basic human decency or doing anything that impacts your self-centered lives. We have nothing to discuss.

Well a big part of the problem is that FIFA is little more than an international crime syndicate…here in Boston commuter rail tickets to Foxboro will be $80 instead of $20, and people have been required to pay $500 apiece for tickets while FIFA is not yet giving them an actual seat and row number.

Was reminded of a sick burn by my grandma today. She had a minister at her church she didn't like, would refer to him as "The Twerp". Asked her once how things were going. She said "He finished his PhD". Short pause. Then she says "Guess I have to call him Dr. Twerp now." And, reader, she did.

What, so it’s, like, a travel book about truly awful church services he’s attended?

Had a long day of hospital visits then meeting friends for dinner. Completely forgot I was dressed as clergy, went to bar. Also forgot it was Halloween. Barman goes “Nice costume.” Not wanting to get into it, said “Thanks.” Then says “What do you actually do?” I reply, “Ah, just some clerical job.”

Depends on my mood, and/or how pedantic I’m feeling. Like much of Ancient Greek, it’s based more on my current vibe than any actual knowledge of how it’s to be pronounced.

Your annual Quasimodo Sunday reminders: 1) John’s gospel never says Thomas actually touched Jesus’ wounds; and 2) use Bible translations that say “Jewish leaders” or “authorities” otherwise you are complicit in blanket condemnation of the Jewish people for Jesus’ death. #quasimodoSunday #stthomas

There’s a serious apples to oranges issue in trying to look to Nicaea for guidance for today: they didn’t have our liturgy, and there’s Western Christendom’s development of general confession in the medieval Latin Mass.

Fwiw the Orthodox Churches still do this, stand during Easter - and they make up for it by kneeling for a good portion of the Pentecost service. It’s not an issue for Orthodox tho b/c Liturgy of St John Chrysostom used by most Orthodox churches doesn’t have a general confession.
