"They went door-to-door to tell their neighbors what the city had not told them: The data center would use twice as much electricity as all of Monterey Park."

The city’s notification in English reached only 40 people living within 500 feet. Activists worked in English, Chinese, Spanish & more!

Interesting! I was also using desktop browser, but it only showed up at medium zoom distance (weirdly?) - too close and it vanishes.

The two Montereys.

Google Maps and Apple Maps both claim there's a Monterey there! This is somewhere along that stretch of Paris Pike with the green median, just before you get to the golf course.

Huh. Lexington council district map shows a place named Monterey in Bourbon County. Unsure if it's mislabeled, misplaced, or if there's just a secret, second Monterey forty miles east from Monterey.

A glorious silver-domed gym in Jackson, Kentucky which accommodated generations of Breathitt County graduates, held a Loretta Lynn concert, and hosts basketball tournaments to this day!

wow!! i hadn't realized it was such an icon! all that pine in the interior is stunning, and it predates WHHS' gym by about 20 years. thank you for the read!!

Sweet! I know where you're talking about! Downtown Jackson has some really nice views. Incidentally: do you know if that silver-domed building next to the high school a gym? Was curious, since it reminded me of Western Hills' gym in Frankfort.

a picture taken from the passenger-side window of a car. there is a guardrail in the foreground, and an intersection underneath the bridge the car is going over. the roads all cut through valleys between large hills. In the background, a double rainbow is visible, the inner bow particularly vibrant and defined.

TIL even though New Circle is maintained by the state rather than the city, you can still call 311 to report a pothole and the staff will pass the complaint along to KYTC 👍
