Even if I think he makes a lot of silly decisions, it's not to a point where it's distracting. I loved Kairi too, though I'm worried about her usage knowing what I know about later games. At the end of the day though, KH1 was a lovely introduction to this series. I'm interested to play more!
I have a few issues with the game for sure, but it was a PS2 game. I can cut it a bit of slack. The story is a bit predictable (and sometimes poorly written) but the plot isn't what I'm even here for. I'm here for the characters, and they are such a treat! I love Sora so much, and Riku is just cool!
Kingdom Hearts (2002)
What a game to end the year with! As a new Final Fantasy fan and a longtime (and slightly jaded) Disney fan, this game was a lovely reminder of why I loved both. The combat is fun, the characters are so lovable, and the energy is infectious. I really liked this game!
All in all, this game is absolutely amazing. Definitely my favorite game from this year, but I understandably have a huge bias towards the Metroid series in general. I implore you all to play this game and form your own opinions. This game is amazing and I absolutely love it!
AND THE GRAPHICS!! Dude this is one of the most beautiful games Nintendo has ever produced bar none. Every area blew me away, and I spent a lot of time just taking in the scenery. Retro has always had spectacular art direction and Prime 4 is no different. Massive props to the art team for this game!
Oh my God, the music of this game is NEXT LEVEL dude. I've always loved the sounds of the Metroid series, but I loved just how in your face the music of Prime 4 is. It's a beautifully atmospheric rock soundtrack that I absolutely adore. I'll definitely be listening to it in my free time.
The writing for the NPCs has been a very large source of controversy online, but I never found any issues with them personally. I thought they were all likeable in their own ways, intereacting with Samus in ways not seen before. They were a welcome addition, and I ended up getting attached to them.
The story is something that I am personally a fan of. It's a very introspective story, getting not just Samus but the player themselves to look inward as you explore the surface of Viewros. The ending sorta stumbles unfortunately, but it's not enough to bring the whole game down for me.
