Heart failure rates in northern Ontario are twice the provincial average — in part because of how far patients have to travel for specialized care.
Dr. Heather Ross is trying to fix that with portable ‘hospital in a Pelican case’ she can carry to remote communities: www.begiant.ca/stories/peop...

The aim? Using these signals to derive clinically meaningful hemodynamic variables – including blood pressure, cardiac output, and systemic vascular resistance – that can support remote patient monitoring and expand access to care beyond the clinic. 🫀
Rawad’s research is focused on the development of a discrete wearable device for continuous hemodynamic monitoring. He’s conducting human trials on healthy and heart failure cohorts and developing software to process signals such as ECG, PPG, and ICG.
⬇️
Designing for equity is at the heart of CaRDM Eq—our training program which aims to empower trainees to drive the next generation of innovation in #cardiovascular health.
📍 We recently visited CaRDM Eq trainee Rawad Alkallas at the Franklin Research Lab to see this work in action!
