ICE arrests in Kentucky are up nearly 40% this year, driven in part by financial incentives and expanding 287(g) agreements. Over 70% of those arrested had no criminal conviction.

Every year, Aiko Ikemura Amaral and I teach a 4 hour workshop on how to do fieldwork in Latin America at the University of Cambridge. Today's feedback: "The session was very useful and so engaging--you are also both hilarious (does your academic schedule leave space for doing stand-up?)...

Then we discussed "best practices" when talking about climate and migration. Including leading with values based language, identifying which actors drive and benefit from exploitation and abuse, and talking about a vision that includes the right to stay and the right to move.
Today I taught a seminar where we discussed the concept of climate mobilities (suggested by Ingrid Boas et al) and how it helps us see the many different reactions and resistances to the effects of the climate crisis from the perspective of the communities. It ties well with our research in Mexico.
