Almost everything we argue about is a substitute for the thing we should be arguing about: the immense wealth & power of an oligarchic class, which captures governments, ruins lives and wrecks the living planet.
This class redirects our rage at scapegoats. To resist its lies is to resist its power.

Oil companies will rake in an extra $90B this year from Trump's illegal war on Iran. The Liberal response? A tax cut they'll pocket by raising prices. Instead of handing money to big oil, the NDP is calling for a gas price cap, a windfall profits tax & real relief for Canadians.

Huge thanks to 30 Liberal MPs who refused to oppose C-233. Your choice shows that the movement to close Canada's arms export loophole is growing. 🇨🇦

Govt has power to fix it. Don't let up—keep organizing and keep the pressure on. We won't stop until Canada is no longer complicit in war crimes.

Mayor Mamdani and a group of children hold hands while running through red tape in a hallway.

For too long, bureaucracy kept 7 child care centers across our city empty — spaces that should have been alive with laughter instead collected dust.

We've run through that red tape. This fall, all 7 will open their doors, bringing an additional 240 free 3-K seats & real relief to working families.

Eduardo Porter is Still Wrong About UBI and AI: A Response to The Guardian Universal Basic Income Isn’t a Job Replacement Plan—It’s an AI Dividend and Stable Income Floor That Protects Work, Wages, and Democracy Eduardo Porter’s new Guardian piece is built around a fam...

I wrote this to help people understand that universal basic income is not meant to permanently replace all jobs. It's meant to be a floor below which no one can fall, and a dividend that universally distributes a share of our economy. It's meant to provide the power to say no and freedom to choose.

Look at Purolator's profits over that time. Despite being over 90% owned by Can Post and poaching profitable parcel routes from CP, leaving the unprofitable ones, not one cent of their billions in profit over that time counts on CP's books.
CP is being deliberately destroyed and you're being conned.

It costs $1 to mail a postcard across the country. Of course it's not profitable! That's not the damn point! The point is keeping people connected and this is especially true in rural, remote and Northern communities where for-profit courier services will *never* fill the gap.

This past weekend PM Carney gave a very clear statement to Canadians of the threat facing our nation. He talked about the importance of Canadians working together to build an alternate path to secure our independence.
Meanwhile MAGA MAPLE'S No.1 bootlicker went to bat for Trump.

Tesla saved $400 million on its federal taxes by shifting billions of its U.S. profits to countries with lower tax rates.

Yes: While you paid your taxes in full, giant corporations maneuvered to pay as little as possible — and it’s all perfectly legal for them.

The system is rigged.

Ford says no one in Canada is scrutinized like he is after backtracking on $28.9M private jet purchase | CBC News Ontario Premier Doug Ford told reporters Monday that "no one in the country" is more scrutinized than he is, as he explained his government's rationale for buying a $28.9-million private jet before qu...

I just keep thinking about this. Ford loves to pound people to shit and strut across their political bodies. All the name calling. The Lefties. Socialists. Cyclists. Gravy eaters.

But he whines like a high maintenance nepo when something doesn't go his way.

Trump Keeps Trying to Pressure Ukraine. Zelensky Doesn’t Care. The American president is trying to use leverage he doesn’t have.

Trump’s lead negotiator, Steve Witkoff, has visited Moscow seven times yet never traveled to Kyiv. For some reason, the Trump administration isn't playing its cards against Vladimir Putin.

A clip from The New York Times reads: "But only the entities that officially paid the tariffs are eligible to recover that money. That means that the fuller universe of people affected by Mr. Trump’s policies — including millions of Americans who paid higher prices for the products they bought — are not able to apply for direct relief.

The extent to which consumers realize any gain hinges on whether businesses share the proceeds, something that few have publicly committed to do. Some have started to band together in class-action lawsuits in the hopes of receiving a payout."

The average American family paid $1,700 in tariffs last year, according to the bipartisan Congressional Joint Economic Committee. Few will ever see any of that money back. The refunds will go to companies, if doled out at all. What a joke.

Meta just paid the lowest effective federal tax rate in its history.

Thanks to tax breaks and loopholes, it avoided $13.7B in 2025 federal income taxes.

But now it's planning to lay off 10% of its global workforce (8,000 people) by May 20 — with more job cuts later this year.

Trickle down hoax.

Cancer survivor here. Ignorant comments about people who are vulnerable is a lot to take. And so much worse coming from an elected "leader" using a microphone. I think your ability to be shocked means you're paying attention, and I'm grateful for every person doing that.

Unconditional basic income works. We have the studies. We have the data. What we don't have yet is the will. I think we can build it. I know we have to try. I know we have to fight for it. It's certainly not going to be handed to us by those who will definitely pay more in taxes as part of the deal.

Trump's war on Iran hasn't altered Canada's cost of making gas — at all. So why are we being hosed at the pumps? Policy choices, not market forces of a war halfway around the world, explain the spike in prices, writes Jim Stanford, leading to unnecessary economy-wide inflation and higher interest rates.

Corporate windfall profits, which should be taxed by the Carney government but won't be.
