When I posted the above rant on Threads, one of the comments was "If you’re smart it’s actually unbelievably useful…" I guess I am just not clapping hard enough.

But at least the Segway kind of did what it was supposed to. A.I. just doesn't bloody work correctly or at all a significant amount of the time. The post was motivated by using the Threads "Hey algo" feature and having it immediately say "I can't do that."

I do remember that and the hype for "The Thing" and when it came out people thinking "Really? That's all?" Don't think I have seen many of them in person living in greater Los Angeles, though I remember some friends renting them for a day trip.

Has there ever been as much of a gap between the actual usability of a technology and the hype around its capabilities as there is with A.I.?
