I'd agree. But they've gotten a lot better at relying on proxies - like opposition parties and the BBC (!) - to do their lobbying work for them. I guess no conspiracy theories needed when the interests of #BigOil align with the needs of opposition parties for Culture Wars.

In a UK parallel, bashing the govt to reopen oil drilling is relentless. Despite the evidence 1. there's not much left, 2. we sell at international prices, 3. it'll take ages to realise, 4. it's wholly counterproductive for Net Zero. So far, they're holding, but I fear the same analysis applies.
Wait a second - snakes 🐍? In Ireland ☘️?
What a brilliant (if brilliantly transparently corrupt) scam: appoint an arch-fan to head up your panel for reviewing your arch plans. I can already imagine how the discussion will go ...
Trump: I want an arch
Cook: I prefer three
Trump: Let's settle on two
Cook: Done!

Surprise - it's #MDPI!
Presumably what's meant is that they've already merged but we'll find out at some point in the next 100 years. Basically, we've got a heads-up that should help with observing the merging process.
Reader: these topics are not related.
@forbes.com - I think you need to work on the way your advertising "breaks the fourth wall" by nonsequituring from a serious article into clickbait about quackery, Khols (who?) and stools 💩 (FFS!).
The headline is insane. It points out a thing that is outrageous to the public (if not, why remark on it?) and then just speculates that this outrageous thing may become business-as-usual in the future. That people voted for Trump is one thing, that they're happy to bankroll future grifters another.
I can't speak to US fleas and ticks, but when it comes to protection from parasites, I would strongly advise voting against GOP interests later this year.
(While the climate experienced by your pets is different in the UK, I would still extend my advice to voting against Reform in May.)
Maybe the solution here is for these prosperity "Christian" nationalists to cohere around a new saviour who stands for their amoral, attenuated "values"? Say, someone like Trump? And if it's necessary for this new "Bigot Christ" to be crucified, I'm *certain* we can find someone happy to help.
When my bicycle was stolen two years ago about 20 metres from a camera on a high street, I wasn't even offered the chance to review the footage. I assume for all sorts of good GDPR reasons but the overall feeling was that bicycle theft is just too unimportant. So, case-closed before it was opened.
A snippet from an email soliciting submissions to a "renowned international journal" ... that seems to be run out of a gmail account
Nothing says "totally legit" like a (self-described) "renowned international journal" using a gmail address for submissions ...
Currently engaged in careful negotiations to persuade my cat to come indoors. Now convinced the Iranian diplomatic corps is led by a cat.
Still, at least I'm not threatening to destroy the cat's bed or bin her food.
Yet.

I'd not thought about it before but, etymologically, denitrification *should* be the opposite of nitrification. But I tend to think of the former as NO3 -> N2, and the latter as NH3 -> NO3. In any case, should "nitrification" here really be "nitrogen fixation"?
To be fair to this malign tech-bro, to quote H.L. Mencken from 1926, ...
"No one in this world ... has ever lost money by underestimating the intelligence of the great masses of the plain people."
Everyone occasionally has problems with work colleagues. But can you imagine having the same dumbass work colleagues for years, having to put up with their bullshit decisions constantly overriding yours, and all the while knowing for a fact they're B-team losers just brown-nosing for the boss?!?
And to think I actually used to worry about the GOP fighting biology because of theoretical science like evolution.
It never occurred to me that they'd instead be so fanatically moronic as to fight it because of practical science like vaccination where saving lives is on the line.
This definitely has the hallmarks of a Lab Tradition™️.
You'll just need to be careful that participating researchers are given clear instructions about how many layers of clothing they're permitted to wear when reaching for the fan's on-switch, and whether NOC's heating is allowed to be on.
Headline: Business - Oil price rises as markets question durability of Middle East ceasefire
One definitely gets the impression that the "markets" are as thick as pig sh*t if they *still* don't understand what kind of asshat they're dealing with here.
I thought they were supposed to be our omniscient overlords who understood the world in ways us mere mortals could not?
Hates liars / Backs Farage: I thought we'd already hit peak oxymoron?
Re: time-series length - I'm sure they thought exactly the same thing about their dataset when the cherry blossom people started.
Do you think our marine biogeochemical models aren't good enough? Well, here's your chance to make them better! 🌊
Note: BIO-Carbon is linked with the #NASA #EXPORTS project, and UK-US collaborations are encouraged for this call. So, don't be shy!
Thankfully I do not know where to look. 😂
