Huge news: Jordan Acker, who infamously pushed state to prosecute UM student protestors, loses bid for re-election to UM Regents. The winner: Amir Makled, who provided pro bono legal support to those same UM students. Enormous victory for the Palestine/student solidarity movement.

Artemis II: Beleaguered federal scientists take a victory lap As the NASA astronauts return to Earth, President Donald Trump is promoting deep cuts in research funding for the second year in a row.

Great summary of the cognitive dissonance of seeing the U.S. celebrate the Artemis mission while the current administration cuts science, by @chelseaeharvey.bsky.social in @eenews.bsky.social

let's be clear about what's happening: donald trump and benjamin netanyahu, whose countries have been committing genocide in gaza since 2023, unilaterally started a war with iran, and are now threatening genocide there.

I called my 89 year old grandma and she said ā€œWe only heard it but nothing more.ā€

It’s ā€˜normal’ for her to hear a strike. At least it wasn’t too close.

This isn’t normal. It just isn’t.

We do have fabulous maps of the Moon already, but the photos the astronauts are taking right now are very likely the ones you'll be seeing on magazine covers and in documentaries for decades. These distant, wider views, from odd angles and with human descriptions, are *contextual* 2/n

The astronauts actually acknowledged that at one point. One picked out some brown hues, and another was asked to confirm at a different window, but that one had a thermocouple on it with Kapton tape, which is bright orange, and he said it was messing with his perception of color.

I’m not. But then again, I sat through an interrogation in June 2023 from Jim Jordan’s ā€œWeaponizationā€ committee where he threatened my and my team’s funding (studying online rumors and disinformation). They’ve been at this for a few years now. Using science funding as part of their culture wars.

While the situation is grim at NIH, it's closer to catastrophic at NSF. They're just not able to move any money out the door. It appears OMB has them on lockdown. www.science.org/content/arti....

Spring is arriving across much of the West more than 20 days earlier than average when looking at when plants first leaf-out - even reaching almost to Canada! I'd expect significant ecological impacts from the heat this March.

Home care wasn't ready for the climate crisis—even before Trump's Medicaid and FEMA cuts As extreme weather mounts, disaster relief for millions of people is being systemically gutted.

I looked into if Medicaid-funded providers who oversee disabled people living independently are ready for worsening climate events. The support they need from the federal government isn’t there, and it’s worsened under Trump. My latest for @motherjones.com.

Graph of snow water equivalent in the state of Colorado for 2026 relative to climatological statistics since the 1980s. 2026 is current a record low around peak conditions typically in March and April.

Awful. Conditions just continue to worsen for Colorado's snowpack (and across many other western U.S. states), with average snow water equivalent nosediving after the historic March heatwave. (which actually continues today with more record heat!)

Another day, ANOTHER study shwoing clear benefits for the baby when mom gets vaccinated against COVID during pregnancy

I'll never forgive Bhattacharya, Makary, & RFK Jr for posting that horrific video that recommended AGAINST vaccination in pregnancy; it was dreadful disinformation

When people ask me about restoring trust in higher ed, there's a reason I bring up presidents calling the police on their students and how I find it curious those students' trust is never a concern

57 of my fellow students were arrested, academically disciplined, and barred from campus 2 weeks before finals.

And then the visas of some of those students were quietly revoked.

And then the DEI office was killed.

And then we watched our mentors’ grants evaporate over ā€œwokeā€.

I'm also thinking about how the things we do to make talks & knowledge production more accessible are being weaponized by tech bros to steal (1-Record talks, 2-Provide those recordings post-talk, 3) Add captioning). So angry because they are making it harder for disabled People of Color to access

4 weeks ago 6 2 0 0

I know I'm not saying anything new but I'm saying it anyway that in tech bro culture there is both a specific commitment to 1) harassment, the way everything is done without consent & 2) theft, the way they steal knowledge & art from creators that is so deeply built on colonization & white supremacy

As I keep saying, this is easily one of the most anomalous out-of-season heatwaves that I’ve observed. Its impacts will be far-reaching after an already historic snow drought this winter. Without a pattern change, water concerns will then amplify this summer.
