The signature that changed baseball forever: On this date in 1947, Jackie Robinson signed his first National League contract with the Dodgers.

Pay and Benefits $7,941 - $11,912 per month Please note due to statewide fiscal conditions, the posted salary range is subject to a temporary 3% reduction. In exchange for this temporary reduction, judicial branch employees accrue an additional 5 hours of paid personal leave per month through June 30, 2027.
One of my personal unexplained mysteries: why the State of California posts jobs with salaries listed "per month" and not annually. I've only ever seen this on California jobs, and I'd bet good money that most people immediately go and multiply by 12...

You know, when I lived in the other place, the one that some people decry as socialism or whatever, I could confirm my pay as you go taxes for the year in a few clicks on a free website. Anyway, many hours with TurboTax later, I’ve filed my 2025 return. Please clap.

Plus, as you know, building a means-testing framework to gate services is (1) complex and oftentimes more administratively costly than just providing to everyone and (2) leads to people who need them not being able to access.
An actual region that exists in the United States is "North Central West Virginia"—they even have an airport named after it. I am on the hunt for any U.S. place name that can top this with the inclusion of *four* directions, which is not merely 33% more deranged but actually 10x more deranged.

Is it a good sign or a bad sign for a president when a popular sports figure is denouncing your immigration policies on a widely watched March Madness broadcast?
Retweet. Also the range on this show may be unparalleled.

One of the things I miss now that I live in NYC is that beautiful brutalist baby the DC Metro. Happy Birthday, we love you.
I do think European teams should more seriously consider boycotting the World Cup. Enjoyed this piece: www.newyorker.com/magazine/202...
I was lucky enough to take an economics seminar with Claudia Goldin in college—love to see this on so many fronts.

“Every $1,300 New York City invested in building bike lanes in 2015 provided benefits equivalent to one additional year of life at full health over the lifetime of all city residents, according to a new economic assessment.”
That’s a better return on investment than some direct health treatments…”
