LET’S DO THIS!

Looking out at San Antonio Bay from the shore in Seadrift, Texas. The water is blue and the sun is high.
Looking down a wooden pier in Seadrift, Texas. The bay and the sky are both brilliant blue.
We drove down to the coast today, and it was perfect!
A Slayer fan with a sharpie apparently visited the men’s restroom at the Victoria Goodwill at some point before I did. 🤷🏻
I’ve never read it and keep thinking I need to before the movie comes out!
Detail from a restaurant mural showing a skeleton playing an acoustic guitar.
Now *this* is my kind of mural! This is a detail from a wall-length mural inside Rancho Alegre, which serves up a mean pupusa in Victoria, Texas.
A bag of mushroom jerky.
The eternal conundrum: tear these bad boys open right now, or inflict them upon my students tomorrow?!
I picked up two of Criterion‘s recent Blu-ray releases. I remember seeing Eyes Wide Shut in a Waco theater back in 1999 and being impressed. It may not be Kubrick’s best, but it was a worthy ending to his career.
I think you just hurt Aunt Sheila’s feelings!
A mural in a barbecue restaurant that shows a hog with an apron grilling meat.
One of my favorite things is a restaurant mural, and I found a good one at Mumphord’s BBQ here in Victoria. Just look at that bad boy grilling the meats!!
They can remind away, but I am proud to be an Auburn Tiger!
AUBURN IS LAND GRANT, YOU SICKOS!!!
A CD of harpsichord music.
HARPSICHORD MADNESS
Selfie next to a bloody, horrific clown.
Always nice to catch up with an old friend…
I know I’m a nerd, but I can’t tell you how excited I am to have gotten my new library card! (And I dig the stained-glass design)
Note found in book that reads “p. 309 — eating and preparing rotten meat.”
I was at the local library’s used book sale, and this note had fallen out of a book. If I’m reading this right, it says “p. 309 — eating and preparing rotten meat.”
Really? This is what we’re taking notes on now?!
I went to the B&N at Deerbrook to shop the Criterion sale one more time, only to find dozens of police cars surrounding the mall. I think the universe is telling me to cool it on the blu-rays. 🤷🏻
Guys, I finally found the perfect pillow…
It was almost Adam again!
MOST TRIUMPHANT!!
As of Saturday, this “snack” is FIFTY years old. 😭
Parks and Recreation!
Inexcusable! 😂
Great list! A couple of these came close to making my top 10 as well. I haven’t heard of 35 Shots of Rum!
What a fantastic film!
I could have predicted three of your films: Before Sunset, La La Land, and 2046! I haven’t seen Past Lives yet.
I don’t think I’ve heard of Blitz!
If I had to rank, I would put The Lives of Others at number one.
What are your ballots?
If the NYT had asked me to submit a ballot for their 100 Best Films of the 21st Century (rude that they didn’t) here’s my list (alphabetically):
• Anatomy of a Fall
• Bamboozled
• Cache
• Cold War
• The Lives of Others
• Moonlight
• The New World
• Oppenheimer
• Pan’s Labyrinth
• Phantom Thread
I wish we could get some Thai food and watch it together!
The first of what I fear will be multiple trips to the 50% off Criterion sale at Barnes & Noble!
I'm wearing an orange Auburn cap.
Thanks to my friends Julie and Chris for sending me this Auburn cap!
