A researcher posing as a journalist would ask a set of judges "Will this person's sentence be shorter or longer than 6 months," and ask another set "Will this person's sentence be shorter or longer than 12 months?" The judges who heard "12" gave longer sentences on average.

If you’re trying to pick up a new skill, and you just aren’t getting it, ask yourself: when was the last time you ate? Or slept? Or took a walk? When the brain is tired, it will conserve energy by refusing to do things like learn.

The only time you should ever use a trick question in your assessment is if the learner needs to pick up the skill of answering a trick question. Otherwise, let’s not intentionally communicate poorly and the punish a learner for not getting it.
