This is something that, when first proposed, we thought would never happen. Unfortunately, there is nothing so preposterous that it can be safely ignored as being highly unlikely to happen.

I have just finished reading A Fever in the Heartland by Timothy Eagan. (Possible spoilers.) This is an excellent book about the uprising of the KKK in the 1920s, specifically how the movement virtually took over the state of Indiana. It is very relevant to current events in the United States.
