Important and timely that the contributions of Indigenous science and scientists are finally gaining recognition (and authorship) in mainstream science journals, but here's a reminder that we ethnobiologists have been doing this for quite a while...
In Memoriam, Mateo Italiano Toribio
"The honor highlights individuals who are advancing research in mental health, alternative therapies, and psychedelics globally. These are the trailblazers conducting research and promoting understanding of psychedelics as tools for mental health treatment and personal development."
But, to do this mutual-collaboration and exchange built on long-term relationships and trust building is crucial. These are the kinds of processes that methods in the Humanities and Social Sciences allow for and why I moved from a Master of Science to doing my Doctorate in Cultural Anthropology.
I strongly believe in the necessity of working in collaboration with traditional communities who have a long-standing history and expertise in navigating altered states of consciousness to inform the widespread introduction of psychedelic tools in modern society.
Excited to share that I’ve been named one of the Top 25 Emerging Leaders in Psychedelic Research and Modern Theory in a list compiled by #Webdelics & #nobodystudios 🌱🐇✨

There have been some significant influences in my translation of the jungle to the academy and Glenn Shepard has been one of them. Always a joy to read another article!

I love connecting with like-minded people with a shared interest for exploration and the advancement of human knowledge so please drop me a line if that’s you 😊
I also founded the Student Association of Psychedelic Investigation to encourage interdisciplinary research & dialogue across all levels of university, am President of the Post Graduate Student Association at Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington
I’m Bek. A cultural psychologist and final year PhD cultural anthropology candidate. My research is based in the Peruvian Amazon where I have been going for a near decade. I investigate traditional knowledge, multi-species relations & altered states of consciousness
Perfect!
Woohoo! Was just looking to con text with anthropologists. We’re on the right track!
Thank you! I am working out how this new platform works, so that would be much appreciated
Thanks Glenn!
