The additional cost of ONE fossil fuel price spike on the scale of 2022 = the ENTIRE COST of Net Zero by 2050. We get precisely nothing in return for the first cost, and a whole new, more secure and cheaper energy system from the second one.

How much more evidence do we need? The ultra-rich and the governments supporting them will destroy everything for the sake of profit, power and pride. Nothing is precious to them - not human life, not the living world - except their own wealth and status. Our survival depends on resisting them.
After about 20yrs I’ve gone back to writing some songs. I’m not much of a singer or guitarist but I think this is a nice comment on the billionaire elite in a @billybragg.bsky.social kinda style. Dark Dark Genes (demo) by Major Tom on #SoundCloud

Farage complaining that Muslim families didn’t vote for Reform is like Hitler complaining that he wasn’t invited to Anne Frank’s birthday party.
Huge if true. And it is. Can confirm.
"A man free of patriarchy is a man who has found not only every woman's humanity, but one who has at last discovered his own. The actual path to liberation for lonely men is feminism—because pursuing an identity based on dominating others is self-isolating."

While the other kids were hiding 'round the clock
We were humping and pumping to the Paedophile Rock
I remember when Chuck was young
Me and Fergie had so much fun
Holding sceptres and owning thrones
Had an old gold crown and a palace of my own
But the biggest kick I ever got
Was doing a thing called the Paedophile Rock…
Every single best picture nominee this year at the Oscars would be improved with added dinosaurs.
The first film is a brilliantly smart techno thriller about the destructive nature of parenthood. All of the others are a bit stoopid. But all have fuckin dinosaurs dude, so everyone should just chill.

The govt can do this? So… you’re basically saying that the idea of royalty itself is a sham… I’m still to be convinced by any argument for a monarchy. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
Being a working class screenwriter in 2026 is like trying to get a prize with one of those claw-grabber machines. With both hands tied behind your back. And you’re naked for some reason. And being forced to watch independently wealthy screenwriters being shown into the VIP room.
Actually Pancakeday was the name of the scientist.
Of course it’s only Pancake Day if it’s from the Shrove area of France. Otherwise it’s just sparkling Tuesday.
Can’t even say Happy Pancake Day anymore because of woke.
The blissful smiles of a couple who’ve just won gold in the synchronised pant-pissing.
I had that Head one and I’m pretty sure we got it from an Esso list of things you could get with their tokens? Ringing any bells for anyone else?
Wuthering Heights (2026) goes into the collection of recent films etc that have one big thematic thing that the creator has to absolutely *nail* to make everything make sense and then they decide not to, but apparently I’m not meant to care because aren’t we all having a marvellous pretty time?
But regularly that style just feels self-indulgent and ill-disciplined(?) - it’s just not the right thing for the story. It’s the difference between Saltburn (should be horizontal but keeps trying to shove it into vertical) and Parasite (perfectly horizontal).
I’m sure I’ve heard you talking about the difference between horizontal and vertical storytelling. Occasionally the characters are interesting and compelling enough that it’s enjoyable to just dip in to their lives for a bit without their story going from A to B…
People always complain that in You’ve Got Mail Tom Hanks is creepy for manipulating Meg Ryan over email because she doesn’t know it’s him. But in Sleepless In Seattle she hires a literal private detective to stalk him, so I reckon they’re even. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
“John, we’d like to make all of the shows we love, but we’re really limited on budget so we’ll just make stuff from the same four people probably.”
Thank you.
Rewatch of The Exorcist for the first time in a long while. Honestly, no notes. Beautifully shot, masterfully done in all aspects. And still creepy AF. Good job everybody involved.
Another in the ‘stubborn maniac’ category here. Currently in that juicy juicy sweet spot of not earning enough from writing to go full time AND the day job being so numbingly exhausting that self-promotion feels profane.
This is a brilliant, thorough and truthful bit of writing, as you’d expect from @littlemaddles.bsky.social.
Someone is making a penny, as they say, and the arts needs to have a hard look at itself, 25 years into a lunatic experiment in impoverishing creators.

Now *that’s* comedy
Airbnb I stayed in at the weekend had a great roof window right above my bed that gave a fantastic view of the Moon and Jupiter. We’re all cosmic miracles of circumstance yet there is so much suffering caused by a handful of pathetic, tiny, incurious men in search of ‘power’.
Coming out of January like:
