Can I ask pre-webinar what operating system the computers running the presentations at #EGU26 will use? Thanks! :)

In 2017 we went to the Diamond Light Source to test if we could make obsidian by slowly cooling bubbly magma inducing resorption of the bubbles. We found that we could, so long as the cooling was very slow.

Met Office news release: 27 November 2025 - New Met Office service to cut aviation disruption from volcanic ash

Today, we're launching our advanced volcanic ash forecasting service to reduce aviation disruption. In 2010, EyjafjallajΓΆkull closed much of Europe's airspace; our new service could halve such disruption and keep skies open during future eruptions.

Vital piece of investigative reporting from Sky. They've uncovered the X algorithm which feeds users extremist right wing material from the moment they join the site. It is a far-right radicalisation engine, by design.

As well as testing the models, we spend time discussing their implementation and benchmarking.

We provide a range of model files with the paper, as well as detailed instructions on how to build poroelastic magma mush deformation models using Finite Element modelling software (COMSOL Multiphysics).

We also contrast entirely poroelastic magma mushes, with magma mushes that contain both poroelastic regions AND melt-rich domains.

The composition of the mush can alter both the spatial and temporal ground deformation patterns for an identical magma resupply simulation.

Melt compressibility also impacts the temporal evolution of ground deformation, and how we may experience post-injection uplift or subsidence.

Awkwardly, in terms of interpreting deformation, the effect of compressibility also trades off with mush reservoir geometry...

In this paper, Rami explores different modelling approaches to simulate volcano ground deformation from melt resupply to magma mushes.

Key parameters are tested: porosity, permeability, compressibility, mush geometry, and composition.

Melt compressibility has a big effect on deformation amplitude.

100% this.

Also, when papers spend weeks (or more) waiting for someone to tick a box to move it to the next stage of the process, and then they demand comments on proofs within 3 days and with no regard for a weekend…!

New paper! The last of EloΓ―se Bretagne's PhD papers is out! Here we generalize our models for permeability to magma mush at any melt fraction. Take a look if you want to model percolative flow of melt through a magma mush and if you want to account for crystal shape.
