Of course not. Juries are often flawed judges of who had the better argument. That’s not even getting into bench trials. The results of those trials are still called verdicts and it’s just one judge’s opinion.

Juries aren’t some sacrosanct arbiters of truth. If they were, let’s go back to when it was routine practice to have all-white juries. Do we shrug and say, “well, the jury said not guilty so I guess the charged lynching didn’t happen”?

It’s also got nothing to do with defamation law. Jurors can have their views, others can have theirs. Thats exactly why everyone in the USA is free to call Rittenhouse or OJ murderers if they like. It’s just a statement of opinion under the law.

I honestly don’t even know who “she” is in this thread. I just thought it was weird to imply objective reality depends on the thoughts of citizens on a jury operating on whatever set of varying standards of the jurisdiction in which they sit.

It’s all about the pirogies.

It's still objectively am opinion. Juries aren't asked "did the defendant kill that guy", they're asked whether the state proved beyond a reasonable doubt whether the defendant killed that guy.

Also, a jury doesn't make a factual determination of what did or did not happen. They weigh in on whether one part has made its case beyond a reasonable doubt or by a preponderance of the evidence (criminal/civil).

Yes, Kyle Rittenhouse definitely murdered two people. Oh, wait, you were asking about OJ? Him too.

Mr Patel is not sitting on a thumbtack.

If he gave that speech as an ordinary dude, I’d say he crossed the Brandenburg line. As a president, I’m less sure. It matters.

Nope, this is a personal suit. The DoJ ain’t involved at all.

He’s literally going to need to provide a dozen or so security people to testify about how even tempered and sober he is all the time, to the point that the only conclusion is the Atlantic is lying. Good luck, pal.

Exactly. There is no possible way he’ll allow this to go to discovery to the level required to win. His deposition wouldn’t be nearly as bad as this depositions of his staff.

Deposing his security detail will be fun too.

I look forward to him disclosing his medical and financial records demonstrating $250M in damages.

I’ve never seen such enthusiastic embrace of the Streisand effect.

What the hell happened to Carhartt jeans? This is something I’d wear to be comfortable on airplanes. Or as pajamas. No way is this workwear.

Then there’s the Polity where Earth Central AI flat out took over and hardly anyone noticed because the AI kept humans around in positions of modest authority to help our self esteem.

Umm, is that not what Musk and Karp and all those guys want? Obviously THEY will retain root access to the systems, but for the rest of us…

If it doesn’t work that’s a sign we just need to give the AI companies EVEN MORE MONEY until every last one of us has a penthouse and a Ferrari.

Also, the Culture books include sex transitions. One of them had an aside on how married heterosexual couples that endure through the centuries would sometimes swap sexes just to see what it’s like and so each spouse can give pregnancy a whirl. Someone should tell Musk that the Culture may be woke.

Also, if you really want The Culture to be a reality, you need unlimited energy. Fusion reactor first, then robots.

I did the same. Wasn’t wild about the first couple episodes, stopped watching, tried again and really got into it.

This article is the reddest of red flags: Platner cosplays. He went from "student protestor of the Iraq war" to "volunteer soldier in the Iraq war" to literal mercenary. Pretty obvious he puts on and takes off political identities like clothing

Kamala Harris lost because she campaigned like a Republican. No, I didn’t watch any of her events or read anything at all about her positions, but I followed social media during campaign season and read lots of posts about how she was campaigning.

The allegations are also mighty specific and the Atlantic reportedly does meticulous fact checking. They might have a follow up locked and loaded that includes videos or something.

Unless the Atlantic straight up invented all of this, they’re fine. They’ll probably get subscription increases from the publicity.
