Lab animals deserve enriching environments, but what if our efforts to help unintentionally cause harm? In our ES&T perspective, we explore how leaching plastics and plastic additives may impact fish health, and your experiments...
Our PhD student Justine Bélik has published as a preprint the first epigenetic clock in the mangrove rivulus, and the first ever on a self-fertilizing species. With this clock, we're able to predict the chronological age of the fish with a mean absolute error of 28.7 days.
One might think that during summer, not very much is happening at ILEE. Our September Newsletter proofs the contrary!

Have you considered using an illustrated poster for outreach?
That's just what @vt-invasivespecies.bsky.social did. We created 5 posters about the ISC's mission, Virginia invasive species, and the impacts of invasive species on economics, environment, and health.

New paper! 🥳📜 We reviewed 275 ecology & evolution journals: only 38% mandate data sharing & 27% mandate code sharing. 📉
We share recommendations to help close this gap. 💡

Looking forward to it!!
Perceptions matter. Despite an understanding that chemical pollution can affect wildlife behaviour, respondents from industry were more likely to be negative or neutral in their responses to the application of behavioural toxicology to risk assessment compared to those from academia and government.
