As to the fire chiefs comments: Most of the rest of the world allows single egress staircases - Honestly it's probably cheaper and easier to just upgrade existing equipment and retrain our fire departments than deny housing.
For the Record: my fucking allergies.
A man has been charged under the Motor Vehicle Act in connection with a fatal crash that killed a cyclist in Saanich last summer.
For all the same reasons people drive massive truckson our tiny streeted city - even if they never see gravel or help your friends move - you gotta at least look ready to do it.
It’s part of the base Victoria (maybe BC?) outfit.
Not that it specifically matters for me any more (since i’m perma banned from the Meta stack..) but i’m /really/ worried about the insistence that Facebook is where discussion/campaigning is going to happen for the 2026 Municipal/School board elections.. #yyj #yyjpoli
The B.C. government has just introduced legislation to create a streamlined approach to deal with mayors and councillors causing dysfunction.
It's a moderate improvement, but won't solve the biggest issues.
I'm not working today, but here is a brief overview.

The possibility of consequences is “Communist Legislation” 😂
> But maybe we’re inhibiting cyclists during peak hours?
exactly this - any amount of pedestrian traffic/bike traffic would be forced to filter through those bollards making flow.. spicy - the bollards also pre existed the pedestrian islands and curbs which should be enough of a deterrent.
Graphic celebrating Trans Day of Visibility
Today is about visibility, dignity, and the right of every person to live openly and safely as themselves.
I’ll keep standing up for people who are marginalized, keep calling out discrimination when I see it, and keep pushing for a world where everyone belongs.
Pandora @ Store street cycling intersection with bollards removed
Pandora @ Store cycling intersection with bollards in place.
THEY REMOVED THE BOLLARDS AT PANDORA AND STORE! 🎉🎉🎉 #yyjbike #yyj Thanks so much to @victoria.ca staff - amazing change.
one sec: reposting because it’s Pandora and Store 🤦♂️

We're far to lenient on drivers. It's amazing to me that you can modify your vehicle in such a way to make it dangerous, kill someone with it, then have your charges downgraded to a none criminal fine of $1150 and 6 points on your license.. #bcpoli Disgusting.
It’s name is “Luna” in latin. Also Mars has Deimos and Phobos, etc.
Today in B.C. Social Media outage - People Doom and Gloom about Moving from "Rated as high quality and very low credit risk. " to "Rated as high quality and very low credit risk. " #bcpoli
I'd previously emailed the city about the Caledonia/Cook crossing which has the same "ped" pre-crossing and was told no - Cyclists were supposed to wait for the light to go green.
Facebook/Instagram/Threads - it felt less awkward than saying “all my accounts in the meta ecosystem have been banned”
Judging by the insanity that is Gladstone/The Hanami market Victoria really needs a lot more markets.. #yyj - Maybe the Romeos/Fisgard Plaza needs to be a permanent market space?
Soon™️
OK, Sure.
Here - I'll ask you a question: If you need to be this pedantic about me refuting a statement of "Victoria taxes high bad" are you being this pedantic with the elected city Councillors that made the original statements? Are you holding them to this same level of rigor?
i honestly can’t believe Manak is running for mayor considering the state of the police department..
… i’ve now been “well aktshullied” twice today for making an offhanded post about two local councillors being allergic to tax increases and seemingly unwilling to make cuts. Hopefully we aren’t reaching mastadon levels of pendanticness.
ಠ_ಠ - Unsure if you watched the Victoria BC council meeting i’m referencing but councillors were making “taxes bad because high” quips.
So i’m commenting in kind.
Born to dismantle, but never to mantle.
it's 100% AI Slop - of course i'm not OK with it, i'd rather use quality sources that people were paid to produce. But this is still /good enough/ for this level of discourse.
If The Debate I was responding to was this nuanced it'd be worth putting this amount of effort into it - but i was referencing a council debate that basically boiled down to "We're taxed to much so we shouldn't have nice things" - which is ridiculous in the face of *Broadly gestures at everything*
Do you have a better source? - I ended up choosing this particular set of charts to screenshot because it was the clearest of all the sources i could find (and had seen referenced elsewhere match.)
