A new blog for Social Europe, drawing from a recent keynote. I argue that AI at work is not just about efficiency. It is about managerial power, workers’ voice, and democracy.
If democracy is eroded at work, it does not stay there. It reverberates into society www.socialeurope.eu/silicon-vall...
Their line on webinars vs meetings seems bs to me. I have had two academic seminars scraped by them (public registration link) and they were organised as a zoom meeting not as webinar (which is a separate paying package or only included in higher tier subscriptions).

The use of Impact Assessments in labour mobility decisions (and beyond) Empirical evidence pertaining to the phenomenon of intra-EU labour mobility has assumed an increasingly prominent role within the framework of European Union governance. This has been notably evidenced by the implementation of initiatives directed towards the enhancement of knowledge on the posting of workers, the coordination of road transport, and the coordination of social security. While impact assessments are commonly understood as a key instrument for integrating such data into EU policymaking, their role in judicial reasoning has received far less systematic attention. Speaker: Marco Rocca, French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), DRES research unit of the University of Strasbourg Discussant: Franck Lecomte (TBC), Court of Justice of the European Union
If you around Kirchberg (Luxembourg) tomorrow and got a lunch break to fill, I'll be here discussing our WIP paper (with Justyna Hejman-Mancewicz and Daniel Elanga Mendogo) on the use of impact assessments by the CJEU.

I think it's simultaneously this and the fact that many enthusiasts seem to have a narrow sense of what job tasks are/can look like. There's a lot of "you don't understand what AI can do" coming at some of us and a legitimate response is "you don't understand what I can do, and need to, in my job."
“HIELANMAN'S UMBRELLA” should be a new law of journalism, which states that if AI generated photos are used in a news article, all reporting from that publication should be instantly distrusted.
I refuse to use AI to generate illustrations so my students are unfortunately stuck with the most cringe and poorly made memes that a geriatric millennial can produce.
"Women adopt AI at rates 25% lower than men.
This isn’t a guess. It’s the finding of a Harvard Business School meta-analysis examining eighteen studies, over 140,000 participants, across multiple countries."

an old-school DnD alignment chart, a grid of 3x3 squares, with the two axes being lawful to chaotic and good to evil. lawful good: a lengthy, well-formatted footnote with additional explanatory text neutral good: a note to future self of what to do with a footnote, but the full citation already pulled chaotic good: an incomplete footnote but the various authors are at least listed in brackets lawful neutral: a somewhat more restrained footnote than lawful good, without explanatory text true neutral: just the footnote chaotic neutral: a note from the author to the author, saying only "find this again!" lawful evil: a curt footnote saying "see, again:" with the full citation after it neutral evil: text, cut off by the screenshot: "I swear I read this somewhere; I've lost the bloody [...] goes to publication" chaotic evil: a completely blank footnote
I found this lying around in a random folder with other things I made in grad school: FOOTNOTE ALIGNMENT CHART
