Michelangelo's Pietà is arguably one of the most recurring motifs in #comics art, from The X-Men all the way to Green Arrow and Daredevil. But despite all those renditions, its portrayal in #Catwoman: When In Rome remains, like all of Tim Sale's art, one of the most beautiful.

Messner-Loebs' run is one of those where every splash page feels less like an exploitation poster and more like a gut-wrenching fresco, with every ounce of pathos appeal, as if it were Magdalene embracing the inconsolable Virgin Mary—just a thought.
