Three Post-its to Transform Your Storytelling — Storyology When we put together technical stories, there are thousands of big and small decisions that we have to make along the way. Making such decisions can be agonising, and can seriously slow us down. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Allow me to introduce you to: the Three Post-it Exercise.

This week on the Storyology blog, I wrote about my favourite tip for putting together strong technical communication. All you have to do is write on three post-it notes...

‘Technofossils’: how humanity’s eternal testament will be plastic bags, cheap clothes and chicken bones Fast fashion and drinks cans among technological-age matter most likely to endure as fossils, say scientists

This headline really pisses me off.

All human made materials, including smelted metals and alloys, fired ceramics, concrete and engineered glass will also endure. The article goes on to list other materials but plastic gets clicks 🙄

So many women, including myself, raised the alarm on the predatory behaviour of PhD students (and staff) at UCL. The only surprising element of this case is that one of them got caught.

My feeling is that relying on platforms for followers is too precarious these days - reckon the future will be mailing lists, personal blogs and podcasts.

Reeves’s Heathrow third runway report was commissioned by London airport The chancellor is under fire after a study cited as evidence for expanding the terminal to boost the UK’s economic growth was ordered by Heathrow itself

So now we have it. Rachel Reeves's claim that a third runway at Heathrow Airport would boost economic growth comes from a report commissioned by .... Heathrow Airport. Instead of acting in the national interest, she's channelling corporate lobbyists.

Trust in scientists and their role in society across 68 countries - Nature Human Behaviour What is the state of trust in scientists around the world? To answer this question, the authors surveyed 71,922 respondents in 68 countries and found that trust in scientists is moderately high.

Overall people’s trust in science is good however more extreme political bias seems to make people less likely to trust science and there is variation within countries too 🧪
