Being a grad student therapist is teaching mindfulness skills to clients then going home and doomscrolling for hours while eating a rotisserie chicken straight out of the bag

$8 million in annual naloxone funds could be cut in Missouri. That could mean 400 extra deaths by 2030. Spending on naloxone is not only an investment for our future, WE CAN'T GO BACKWARDS!!
Picture of me holding a sign saying ‘no kings no wars’ at a protest
Happy to see a good turnout today in South Bend at the no kings protest

god grant me the serenity to accept the bellies i cannot safely pat, the courage to pat the bellies i can, and the wisdom to know the difference

Benito is a threat b/c he makes art so alluring and enjoyable you want to understand everything about it and then you end up learning about sugar and slavery and colonialism and the Taínos and Hawaii and then you probably have some thoughts of your own, and that's why art is powerful and dangerous
Good news: I've completed the qualitative interviews for my F31/diss project. Bad news: transcription checking and analysis are on hold while I turn my house upside down looking for my air pods.
I'm finally recruiting for my dissertation! If you know anyone who is recently postpartum, send them my way!

1. Did you know that Girl Scouts has, for a long time, accepted trans girls and nonbinary scouts?
Trans kids are under attack. Every year, I make a thread of trans and nonbinary girl scouts you can get your cookies from.
Lets get our cookies from them this year in solidarity!
Today is the 13th anniversary of the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary, which resulted in 26 deaths, 20 of them 6 and 7-year-olds.
That we did not limit access to guns after Sandy Hook, once and for all, makes the deaths at Brown University all the more heartbreaking. We must end this now.
Can’t wait to celebrate with you 😈
10/10 recommend. Ryan is a great mentor and ND/south bend is very livable. And this is coming from someone who’s very critical 😂
Thank you all the program officers at NIH that persisted through the 2025 fiscal year and were able to fund 99% of the total FY2024 budget. I know this has take a toll on everyone at NIH. Thank you for supporting important health and behavior science and helping to keep the U.S. a leader in science.
Excited to share that I am officially recruiting a postdoc to study the neurobiology of addiction! Looking for someone who would be excited to lead current projects in the lab and develop new directions in related areas.

On Trump, autism and tylenol:
A student I was talking to today had it exactly right on this latest White House bullshit claim
“It’s at the perfect intersection of hating disabled people and wanting women to be in pain”
There’s not only no link, the claim is both ableist and misogynist.
“… just days after a gunman sprayed over 500 bullets across the CDC campus, the government fired over 150 violence and injury prevention specialists”
1) pic of Melissa and Mark Hortman 2) pic of Melissa Hortman and dog Gilbert
Remembering MN house speaker Melissa Hortman, her husband Mark and their beloved dog Gilbert. Murdered in June at their home by a rightwing Trump-voting evangelist, who also shot another MN lawmaker and his wife at THEIR home, 9 and 8 times, respectively (miraculously, they survived).

Any opportunity for a cat picture…
Shoutout to to my cats, my partner, and my mentor @rwcarpenterphd.bsky.social who put up with so much through this process 😅

Not too long ago there was bipartisan support for supportive “housing first” for people on the streets: it’s safe, humane, reduces crime, reduces hospitalization, & saves the community $. This ain’t it.
