Coachella is trying to wipe all of the footage of The Strokes protest set so I’m gonna post it here. The last images on the screen made me cry.

Alison Elliot in Almereyda's THE ETERNAL
Since we're talking mummies, may I recommend Michael Almereyda's derided/dismissed/all-but-forgotten THE ETERNAL (1988) which not only introduced me to Cat Power & Joe Dolan, but features Chris Walken doing an Irish brogue (kind of), and sports one of the great reveals of a monster/child-in-peril?
Reading this absolute dogshit essay as part of research for this project I'm working on and relieved it's not one of mine for a change.

A rewatch of 2025's WOLF MAN confirms it's a truly special and beautiful film. It provides a steady string of scares and ick (Wannell is an expert in that) while understanding what powered the original film: Larry Talbot's sadness and shame. This movie is always on the edge of emotional implosion.
Daniel Waters tonight, talking to @ucdenver.bsky.social about HEATHERS, BATMAN RETURNS, and writing in your one true voice.
