Apple pulls data protection tool after UK government security row Customers' photos and documents stored online will no longer be protected by end to end encryption.

Huge story developing this afternoon as Apple announces it’s removing its highest level data security tool from UK customers. All data and photos on iCloud will be left unencrypted and therefore accessible by UK law enforcement if they have a warrant. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

EBay to reintroduce selling fees by the back door, just a few short months after scrapping them for most private sellers. EBay sellers beware.

DJI Mic Mini: Fixed.

Absolutely. While we debate 32 bit float, the majority of the globe has duff connectivity and 720! 👍. The difference in capability is very often down to a failure of the tech some parts of the world take for granted.

An 8k crop capability will lead to less reliance on dodgy zoom lenses and ropey 1080. Enhanced audio with wide and Bluetooth freq range will come to devices meaning less reliance on external mics. Exciting times are coming.

The future is the development of the tech, how AI will soon allow ‘fixed’ audio to broadcast live (a Zoom in a marble walled atrium will sound as good as a studio LIVE), auto VT editing will replace timeline construction and 8k will reduce the difference twixt ‘real cameras’ and mobile.

.. and those concepts are important (to be taught) in all camera work but we are now at a point where every crew (small form or large) uses those concepts as part of natural workflows. We have Natural History Unit crews using phones or mics - they’re tools of the (wider) trade. We can’t silo ‘mojo’.

My point was that it was something that 5 yr olds were doing naturally and we were becoming the dinosaurs - and the label of ‘mojo’ was dead - not the use of tech in Newsgathering. We hung a title to something that was becoming universal. Mobile tech literacy was, as you say, the new normal.

There are lots of great apps for editing video on your phone out there but one of the best and most professional is Luma Fusion - and it’s currently 66% off.
$10 as a one-off payment (not per month or per year) is a steal.
You can make video projects like this

My top tip for new journalists is always to pick up the phone. An email can be ignored or the reply opaque. Asking a question verbally is more direct and likely to get an instant answer.

STILL haven’t been verbally abused here (although @marcsettle.bsky.social will inevitably start doing so now). What an interesting group we are too (well… YOU are). Hopefully a new dawn awaits…!
