Objects, Images, and Spaces of Health | Consortium for History of Science, Technology and Medicine This group provides a forum for scholarly work on the premodern period that connects histories of science, technology, and health, with histories of art, visual culture, and material culture. In order to ensure a broad range of approaches and opinions within the working group, its key terms will be broadly defined in all respects: we see "premodernity" stretching backwards from the seventeenth century to antiquity; "health" as incorporating global histories of both institutional medicine and more vernacular practices and personnel of healing; and "visual and material culture" ranging from the built environment to the smaller-scale world of images, diagrams, tools, and other technical objects.

The Objects, Images, and Spaces of Health April 17th meeting hosts Briana Brightly, who has shared a chapter from their doctoral dissertation titled "How to Draw the Buddha and Dissect a Corpse: Iconometry and Anatomy in Early-Modern Tibet".

: Half of UK universities face a deficit next year. Up to 50 could close.

That is a sector in crisis. Simply blaming a tuition fee freeze and nudging fees up with inflation is not a plan. Where is the long-term strategy for higher education?

UPenn faculty condemn Trump administration’s demand for ‘lists of Jews’ Groups say EEOC demand for names and personal details echoes dark history and threatens safety and civil rights

'The US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is demanding the university turn over names and personal information about Jewish members of the Penn community as part of the administration’s stated goal to combat antisemitism on campuses.'

"genAI" doens't "learn" (tech execs' term) since it has no brains. Instead, it stores and regurgitates - PLAGIARISM....

"many AI developers use a more technically accurate term when talking about these models: lossy compression."

Out of curiosity, I just ran a few paragraphs from The Butchering Art through an AI checker and it got flagged: 88% AI. This book was released in 2017, and AI machines were subsequently trained off it. How many writers are getting flagged for AI because of the literal theft of their work(s)? Insane.
