Someone inside city hall — not a politician, not D.A. — made this exact point to me the other day. They noted nobody in Frey’s coalition even remotely has the legislative policy chips of, say, @ward2.minneapolismn.gov. They just outsource everything to the mayor’s office.
Centrists on the Minneapolis city council are not writing legislation, not leading with bright ideas on any of the issues in the city, not calling any experts to the table, not studious or showing any depth of intellectual curiosity, they don't excel at anything but the status quo

I worked for a progressive City Council member in Frey's first term and when my boss would ask for basic details on police and the budget during Council meetings (in 2020!), the mayor would refuse and once even likened him to a baby for asking questions. Frey eventually just stopped showing up.
