Just got a paper rejected from Nature Scientific Reports the other day. Perhaps the problem was that we wrote it ourselves!

A four-panel illustration showing that diabetes can affect people at any stage of life.
Top left: A child stands with one foot on a football while checking their blood glucose with a small device.
Top right: A pregnant woman sits comfortably on a sofa and checks her blood sugar while another woman looks on supportively.
Bottom left: A middle-aged construction worker wearing a hard hat and safety vest checks his glucose monitor while speaking with a colleague.
Bottom right: An older woman in a wheelchair reads a book with a smiling young girl beside her, who is holding a cat. The panels are labelled: “Diabetes can… affect people… at any stage… of life.”

When using Microsoft Word or Google Docs, don't just make text bigger and bolder to make it a heading. That will work for sighted users, but screen reader users will miss that and just hear it as normal paragraph text. Use actual heading styles, like level 1 through 6.

This ad is a new low in smearing for Heather Humphreys. Barristers operate on a taxi-rank basis*, they don’t choose clients. The financial meltdown was caused through a failure to regulate the banks by FG & FF. She really must think the public is as ignorant as herself! #Aras25

Drowning Doesn’t Look Like Drowning Drowning is not the violent, splashing call for help that most people expect.

Thanks for the reminder @janemunday.bsky.social. Every summer, I repost this article DROWNING DOES NOT LOOK LIKE DROWNING. To date, I know of FOUR kids who were saved after someone who'd clicked on the link learnt how to spot actual drowning. Take time to read and pass on.

Liverpool parade latest: Child and adult seriously hurt and dozens more injured after car ploughs into Liverpool crowd Liverpool City Region Mayor Steve Rotheram cautions against speculation, after 27 people were taken to hospital and 20 others were treated at the scene.

Sad news from #Liverpool yesterday and my thoughts with those affected. But media reports of 'panic' as crowds scatter are misplaced, as fleeing imminent danger is a perfectly sensible & rational response

The phrase "hoop hoop hoop hoop hoop" can be interpreted in a few ways. It's most likely a playful or humorous way of saying "basketball" or referring to playing basketball, as "hoops" is slang for basketball. However, it could also be a simple repetition of the word "hoop" to emphasize the circular shape of a hoop, a ring, or the hula-hoop.

Post image The phrase "making the milk sizzle" likely refers to the act of causing something, particularly a product or idea, to be exciting, interesting, or even to be very hot. It's a metaphor for creating an emotional connection or a sense of excitement around something. The word "sizzle" itself suggests a hissing sound, often associated with food cooking in a pan, and this sound is used to describe the emotional impact of a product or idea on a customer.

I had skipped the intro and was laughing to myself about how she wouldn't be able to focus so completely on herself all day if she'd anyone else to be minding or even accommodating. Then I realized I was wrong! The mind boggles. The husband and children aren't mentioned once.
