๐ŸงตSpotted in Country Aotearoa New Zealand:

A woman (20s?) is sitting on top of a picnic table looking out over a pristine water hole.
Legs swinging idly.
Expression dreamy.
A mist travelling over the water.
Bird song coming from every direction.
This is peace. (1)

I think you might be onto something here. There needs to be some kind of typo splatter or whacking stick to scare them off. I'm working on a bunch of exclamation marks tied together with sturdy equals signs... It's a daft idea... but it just might work.

OMG are they ever pesky little beasties (says the person who's spent all day reading a fully edited--by amazing editors --ms proof only to find FIVE pernicious typos still lurking!) I swear they breed when we're not looking, feeding on stray en-dashes and commas, lurking behind sentence fragments.

Intent | TheatreRoyal On 17 December 2025 the 180-year long history of the case of the Nelson Tenths was settled in court. The possibilities, the questions, the dreams: Taonga Pลซoruo, Waiata and Pลซrฤkau written by a grandm...

Hello lovely people. I know this is very regionally specific, but for anyone in Nelson/Tasman...

Theatre Royal is hosting a play about the Nelson Tenths as told by the wonderful Donna McLeod and I'm going to see it tomorrow. If you see me, please say hi!

The short description is that you're looking at a river, surrounded by rocks and trees. The long description is that you're standing on some wet rocks and boulders at the edge of a rushing river, watching as it curves off into the distance. The water is turbulent from the rocks beneath and standing here you'd be definitely hearing the waterfall directly behind you as white noise magic. Surrounding you and the rocks are great mossy tree branches, arching over your head. They're a lush green and will be dripping water on you every now and then, but you won't mind. The rocks at the river's edge are green with moss and very wet and pleasingly soft to touch. The smell is a delightful fug of leaf mold, greenery, sharp, chilly fresh air and peace. Standing here, you know you want to stay a little longer. Maybe sit on the nearby bench and take all this in for a while. Maybe eat that lunch you packed as you hear the birds overhead calling to each other and let your mind relax.

A picture from our walk along the river at Te Puna o Riuwaka. It doesn't capture half the magic. (As always, more in the alt text)

*Piwakawaka are small birds, a species of fantail. They are a delight to encounter and tend to flitter and dance around walkers or anyone or anything that can scare up a bug dinner.

Any typos spotted in this spot had a lovely picnic at Te Puna o Riuwaka (Riwaka Resurgence) on Sunday. If typos spotted, they'll be promising themselves to come back for a swim in the summertime.

A man (70s?) with a long silver beard. Wearing a green corduroy jacket over sensible hiking clothes and sturdy mud caked boots is sitting on a bench overlooking a spring welling up from an underground cave. Eyes half closed. Taking in the peace. A faint smile on his face. (5)

A solitary cow (Hereford?) is munching its dinner grass on the side of a steep hill.
A river gurgling by to its right.
Trees whispering in the wind to its left.
A piwakawaka* dancing in front of its nose, first here, then there. Darting to get the bugs disturbed by its rather large friend. (4)

A couple (teens?) are holding hands as they navigate their way around mist-cloaked trees.
Whisper soft moss with beads of water shimmering on it.
Birds flittering and fluttering in the trees overhead.
The smell of leaf mould and magic in the air. (3)

A small human (4?) wearing a riding helmet, unicorn tracksuit and sturdy boots is sitting atop a Shetland pony and looking MOST aggrieved.
She's sitting in the saddle right...
She's holding the reigns right...
She's got her feet in the stirrups right.
But for some reason... this pony won't go! (2)

๐ŸงตSpotted at a Country Market in Aotearoa New Zealand:

A small human (6?) is telling a friend in VERY grave tones: "My Dad isn't good at LEGO. I am. But he's not."
His friend (8?) says earnestly: "But you can teach him! He'll learn if you show him how!" (1)
