Got to the event early, went up to Cindy.

Me: "I don't know if you remember me, I was an intern for you years ago."
Cindy: "You do look familiar--remind me your name?"
Me: "Will Frank--"
Cindy: "Oh yes, thank you! I remember you. What are you up to these days?"
And we had a nice chat.

😁

Got stuck on trains, made it to Grand Central Terminal...but I need to go straight to the event I'm going to tonight (Cindy Cohn, @eff.org outgoing director's, book tour) instead of going home first. Weep for my cats, for dinner shall be late tonight.

I can hear the meows of injustice already.

This is YOUR nomination, this is YOUR honor. Until the names are called at the actual ceremony, this is YOUR imaginary Hugo. Do whatever you must to protect your joy from people who want to tear it down. And there will be plenty of them!

Okay. Let's take a moment to talk about How To Be A Hugo Nominee And Come Out Of It Happy About the Honor. I realize this is relevant to like, twelve people. I don't care, those twelve people deserve my time. (You may have seen a version of this thread before. I do it every year.)

In this case it's "no mortal fan can slay me, dammit, I'll never get out of this!"

The thing is, the video calls Alex "perfectly normal" which feels like slander.

And then go to them and grant them unchecked power.

You will get efficiency and a lot of retroactive grievance resolution.

Ursula...you realize that by knowing you, they are pretty much all set on that front?

Across five prose fiction categories, there are 30 different authors shortlisted.

That means no author was shortlisted more than once for a novel, short story, novelette, novella, or series.

Awesome to note there are 10 authors who appear on the ballot in those five categories for the first time.
