I would like to thank the English department of Bungay High School. Liam Manning’s use of the phrase ‘one of those’ is irritating, but imagine if it were ‘one of them’. Small mercies. #NCFC

Why I love England — and I don’t need to wave a flag to show it ‘The train to Leeds is clean, on time and half-empty. I know this is rare, like finding a sixpence in a Christmas pudding — and so I enjoy it’

Lovely and uplifting stuff.🎯

You should have had another 2. Our keeper made a couple of excellent saves. A game of two halves, Ron.

Must admit, I didn’t see a defeat at half time. Manning’s half time team talks must be quite something… Congrats to Derby though. Stepped up significantly in the second half.

Boris Johnson gave parents 'false hope' over schools reopening, Gavin Williamson tells Covid inquiry Watch as the former education secretary gives evidence at the inquiry, which is focusing on the impact of the pandemic on children and young people.

🎯 Gavin Williamson was arguably the best example of having the worst people in charge at the worst time. An appalling man who treated schools with contempt. If he thinks he deserves any sympathy, he is deluded. I try not to swear on social media, but I’m sorely tempted

He is absolutely the worst. Makes Tyldesley sound bearable. Sound off when he’s on.

I’m not surprised this is a cracking interview, full of wisdom. @nicolemccartney.bsky.social is one of the best out there. When she speaks, it’s always worth listening.

Dickie Bird obituary: Without playing for England, son of Barnsley became one of cricket's most famous figures Dickie Bird, who has died aged 92, did not play cricket for England, yet his status as a legend of the game is in no doubt, writes BBC chief cricket reporter Stephan Shemilt.

Lovely stuff. Dickie Bird is at etched in my teenage memory as Botham, Border or Richards.

A very creditable 3rd place for Norfolk u18s. Well played all involved. Some great cricket, but more importantly great sportsmanship and good humour. A pretty decent leg spinner taking 3 wickets in the play-off was my completely unbiased highlight.

Bring back pen and paper! Calls to scrap ‘screen-based homework’ The Tories are proposing that children be allowed to opt out of screen-based learning amid fears devices are being used too much in schools

Another solution (much like statutory phone bans in schools) for a non-existent problem.
