Explore live radio by rotating the globe Explore live radio by rotating the globe.

Your periodic reminder that there is a website that lets you listen to local radio stations anywhere in the world

This is honestly one of the coolest inventions ever, imo. Global access to hyper-local imagined communities

Texas deputy searched Spokane County Flock cameras for a woman who had an abortion– RANGE Media Amidst nationwide and state scrutiny of the cameras, Spokane County’s Flock network was used by an out-of-state cop looking for a woman who had an abortion.

In October, statewide news reported that a sheriff's deputy in Texas searched thousands of Flock cameras in Washington for 'Had an abortion, search for female.’ New documents obtained by RANGE show Spokane County Sheriff's Office cameras were accessed in that search:

I'd be careful with this anthropomorphizing language. GPT doesn't have beliefs. It's interesting that the training data contains enough of this kind of writing to steer/plagiarize its way into a course correction. But if you scold it, it will go back to "proving" something false. Would a human?

twice a year the entire U.S. press becomes a marketing extension of a single billionaire-owned retailer, and nobody in any position of editorial power thinks it's weird or gross

The 1912 article gets rolled out a lot but it’s my solemn duty as a historian to remind folks it’s *worse* than that

Eunice Foote published greenhouse gas studies in EIGHTEEN-FUCKING-FIFTY-SIX (of course, as a woman she couldn’t read her OWN paper at scientific conferences - god FORBID 🙄)

But (x y)^n ≠ Σx^i y^(n-i).

I actually reread Huck Finn *after* James, and I can recommend that. It made some moments especially chilling, but also I think it enhanced my appreciation of Twain's humor and humanity.

(Similar argument for an all-yellow column.)

11 months ago 0 0 0 0

Good point. A 7x3 contains either an all-white column or all-yellow column, or else a matching pair of the remaining 6 patterns.

If there's an all-white column, either one other column has two whites and we're done, or the other four possibilities for the other 6 columns must have a matching pair.

If it was a 3xn grid, each column could be colored one if 2^3=8 ways. If n=9, by the pigeonhole principle two columns must be identical, and by the PHP again, must have a repeated color. That repeated color in two columns gives our rectangle.

So n≤8 is a bound in the 3xn and hence the 4xn case...

A lower-tech solution: once you're looking at the cropped/obscured picture you want to post, take a screenshot of that, and post the screenshot.

(Or cropped screenshot, acknowledging that things like your battery percentage could potentially be extracted by someone who cared.)

Find Out Why Health Insurance Denied Your Claim You likely have the right to access records that explain why your insurer denied your claim or prior authorization request. Use ProPublica’s free tool to generate a letter requesting your claim file f...

I don't know who needs to know this, but Pro Publica has an online thing that will format a letter to your US health insurance company to demand the records behind a claim denial. (which the insurance is then legally required to provide in most cases)

Burn it down: a license for AI resistance (opinion) Resistance is not futile, Melanie Dusseau writes.

“Writing faculty have both the agency and the academic freedom to examine generative AI’s dishonest training origins and conclude: There is no path to ethically teach AI skills. Not only are we allowed to say no, we ought to think deeply about the why of that no.”
