John Normalperson who has the depth of a kiddie pool and is basically exactly how he appears will not pay thousands of dollars for a meat accurate avatar in a digital space which is functionally indistinguishable from just doing a video call or just meeting that person irl minus the floating torsos.

They failed to account that the main use case for VR is people who would much prefer to be anything except what people see them as normally, ergo: trans people and furries. That’s the demographic who will pay hundreds or possibly thousands of dollars to participate.
