Close-up photograph of a dolly varden crab held in my hand. It's shell is off-white, with prominent reddish-orange patches on it's body, each blotch with a dark red outline. The crab is smooth on top, with a wide, squat body. It's large claws are tucked underneath it's shell. It's eyes are held within slightly ovular sockets, giving it a grumpy appearance. It is blowing a stream of water from it's mouth.

Another dolly varden crab, doing much the same. This one's shell is slightly greenish, which much more prominent markings that are maroon-tinted. The stream of water falls backwards onto the crab's back.

For day three of #crustmas, dolly varden crabs... spitting!

This crab, as well as other box crabs, have a very strong excurrent as they pass water over their gills. I'm not sure why exactly they 'exhale' so much water, but when close to the surface they create magnificent fountains.

Please disregard the dust and the fact that this water is gross in the first place. I usually let my flowers dry out on their own but my boyfriend added more water to them and didn’t tell me🤷🏽‍♀️

Plant people, is this a mycelium network, or some kind of root extension coming from the cut stem of some old roses?

I think about him whacking the one on the ceiling with a broom at least twice a day.
