The APL, they’re the masters on non-acting. They make Eddie Redmayne look like he deserved that Oscar
They won’t
I've got way more thoughts than can comfortably fit on Bluesky about this, nor should the #NWSL care about the impact of this move on other competitions, but the damage this move could have on the A-League Women (which has its own problems) is massive, and the APL need to move fast to counteract it
New ep! The #Matildas were 2-0 winners over Kenya in their final FIFA Series game and we're breaking down all the talking points.
Tune in @espnaustralia.bsky.social and the usual pod spots.

“And so, after 2 years of trying to work out how to set up The Matildas without Sam Kerr, she eventually returned from injury…”
Hana Lowry has transferred to Vålerenga in Norway from the #ALeagueWomen, Sydney FC will receive a fee
There’s a concept in AFL where clubs look at players and ask “will they be a part of our next premiership side?”
It’s not exactly scientific, and the answer depends on a lot of things, but I feel like the 2027 Women’s World Cup squad should be approached with that in mind.
A dumbass
Fuckin idiot
Yep, and no matter what Andy Harper rants about, like TG, all Joe will have is his legacy, and he needs to have a better plan B than EvE if we wants to achieve anything.
I’d rather go into Brazil with a team too young to win it than one too old.
Fowlers book essentially said that squad selection isn’t entirely up to the coach (or medical team either)
I think every time TG tried to play a lot of youth he’d get lambasted by the broadcaster too and subsequently sections of fans
I think for the same (commercial) reasons.
I watched both Tillies games. Joe (in his overseas coaching anyway) is a plan A and no plan B type of coach and it seems that will be the way he does it here. It was the same in the Asian Cup. Sometimes it works, a lot of times it doesn't.
I think the young backline was good to see, and they’ll all learn from this game.
Other than that, there wasn’t a lot to take from this game.

It was not a pretty performance from the #Matildas, with the side not delivering its finest performance, but goals from Sam Kerr and Clare Wheeler ultimately saw the series favourites get the job done.

Action from the VIC #woso state league
The thing with her is that as the comms say “she has terrific technical ability”
But while that was unique even 6 years ago. It’s not the case anymore.
I’d much rather see if McKenna could’ve done her job in this game.
Or back Sayer in, tell her the midfield is on her shoulders today & see
Oh I saw it, she’s incredible
RV’s?
Thanks, I wasn’t familiar with it. I think the point of a WCup is to display the local sporting culture.
Is there a reason for the decision or just more FIFA being FIFA?
When I read that there’s “no tailgating” allowed at the men’s World Cup, what does that mean?
Another Fifa miracle: train tickets to the MetLife stadium which normally are $12.90 will cost $100 on World Cup match days. What Jesus did with loaves of bread and fishes, Gianni does with dollars.
Flannery is unavailable to non-newscorp media
I like that The Herald Sun is keen on doing Dub exclusives, but also, it’s dumb as shit for #ALW clubs to be giving exclusives
I genuinely thought it was a joke that ICE were planning to operate in Canada
(I wasn’t a fan of the Nth Korean’s getting in the ref’s face from minute 1 and acting like Australia were the overly physical ones when they were the ones throwing elbows, but that’s part of Int. Football too.)
It’s an unforgiving World Cup qualification path, and there’s still a significant gap between Aus and Japan and North Korea.
But this team’s performances generally were encouraging and quite a few of this squad will be eligible in ‘28 which is very exciting.

Reigning Under 20 Women’s Asian Cup champions North Korea are through to the semi finals of the 2026 tournament after defeating Australia’s Young #Matildas 3-0 tonight.

Andy Harper’s post match sounded like a kid doing a class presentation on a book he hadn’t actually read
