The @nationaltrust.org.uk only rarely ask their members to take political action, but when they do, it’s seismic.

Please take the NT’s action, email your MP demanding the Government protect 30% of the UK for nature by 2030: campaigns.nationaltrust.org.uk/page/186395/...

Callanaish stones (Isle of Lewis)+ Golden Eagle poss; Kilmartin Glen (Argyll) plus Hen Harriers; Bardsey Island + seabirds, esp. Manx Shearwater. (I have a footnote in one of my books that mentions shearwaters somewhere.) also Athens acropolis if you want to see Alpine Swifts, which are amazing.

Places in the world outstanding for both human world heritage & wildlife would make a good list. Delphi is on it.

Mycenae, Olympia, Delos (Eleonora’s Falcon) are also pretty good, but not as good as Delphi. Other places I’ve visited that spring to mind are in Scotland & Wales:

Female southern festoons are even more special (back of other camera shot; I have another of the distinctive f. ochracea which is even more cool). #delphi #greece #butterflies #definitelynotabusmansholiday

Kaki skala, Delphi. Not a bad spot for Gruner’s Orange-tip butterfly as it happens.

Which brings up another issue in my opinion that so many of our assessment tools and metrics don’t account for the rapidly changing social/educational landscape that likely renders a lot of these measurements suspect

I do think think there will someday be a comprehensive suite of studies to show how the current portfolio of technologies unleashed without regulation on the public has done to our brains the same kind of damage as leaded gasoline.

Apples and sugar ready to bake a tarte tatin.

🥂 A final baking effort of the academic year: a Tarte Tatin for the party tomorrow to congratulate Prof Kevin Butcher on his well earned retirement, after a truly stellar international career at the top of ancient numismatics. 🥂

Lovely to receive my contributor copies of this smart new volume on Cavafy as World Literature. I have a short chapter about the uses to which Classicists put Cavafy in their scholarship.
