Another art piece for 2024! Stretching my art muscles and made this piece a bit of a practice project to get back into the swing of things.
What better subject to do this with than the lively & curious Rufous-naped Wren & its many subspecies?
In an attempt to be more active here, my first finished art piece of 2024!
This has been a piece that I’ve been thinking about for many years, and will be a part of a larger set of works hopefully in the near future. Very “coming full-circle” piece for me 🐤
When traveling, I often have the urge to draw but don’t have the materials on me. So, I resort to drawing with a finger on my iPhone 😅

Not quite a return to the Amazon, but a wonderful early Christmas gift today was finding out that I am returning to Brazil in a few months! Atlantic forest here I come!

Hi Sarah! I know this building has been monitored for 40+ years, so management is very much aware (but doesn’t do anything afaik). It was certainly a horrific aligning of events for this to happen.
There are people who monitor this building regularly. We can also use condition of the deceased birds to tell how old they are. They all did indeed come from one single night/morning!
One building. One morning. Almost 1,000 dead birds.
I can’t even imagine what the numbers are across the entire city of Chicago.
Please consider turning lights off in your home and offices over night as our feathered friends make their journey south!

I am an NSF GRF PhD student at the University of Chicago (starting my first year 😱).
I am hoping to continue the pursuit of some of my lifelong scientific interests in birds, such as avian perception, museum ornithology, speciation, scientific illustration, & more!
In the spirit of fall migration & having not shared art in a long time, here is a lovely Magnolia Warbler sporting its fall plumage!

Have met up with some LA friends - including seeing Kelsey rock it out on stage (check out Reckling!) - moved in & apartment bird list has begun, and of course enjoying the food and nice weather.

I can only dream of having the courage these feathery ping-pong balls have just casually floating miles offshore on the ocean.
