I didn't want to post about it while the war is going on, but the haters in Turkey are already running very hot...
My new book, coming out in June, Germans and Turks—A Forgotten History of Europe
(and it's very different from what the haters expect...)

Happy to share that I passed my PhD viva with no revisions today! My dissertation traces how Japan mobilised monarchy as a flexible instrument of statecraft across the remaking of the international order from 1921 to 1975.
Last night we hosted our event ‘Global Capitalism: A Roundtable’.
Two experts in the field, Sven Beckert and Alessandro Stanziani, joined us alongside our own Dina Gusejnova and David Motadel (chair for the event) to discuss their new books.

It’s finally done. Absolutely thrilled to have submitted THE SHAH'S GREAT TOUR – my global microhistory of the epic royal journeys of Persia's monarchs to Imperial Europe – for production. May it reshape our understanding of monarchy and the world order in the imperial age.
Thank you:)
Thank you Sadiah, remember our discussions about the book at the Birmingham research seminar - ten or more years ago:)
Thank you:) I look forward to reading your work!
Thank you, Alex - we should have a workshop at one point
And, of course: @lsehy.bsky.social
It marks the end of a 20-year odyssey, mining more than 50 archives across 15 countries; the result is a 400k word text, supported by 5k footnotes. My thanks to all who supported me on this journey. @wiko-berlin.bsky.social @leverhulme.ac.uk @gerda-henkel-stiftung.de @lisa.gerda-henkel-stiftung.de

Book cover of “Islam and Nazi Germany’s War” by David Motadel
Only 38 pages in, and I’m hooked. (And absolutely do not sense the origins of modern conflicts within these pages…/s)
Upcoming course is “The Global War” and I’m thrilled to be learning more about the ‘fringes’ of WWII. (Aka, what isn’t taught in US schools)
Neuerscheinung: "Das gelebte Europa!"
A fantastic discussion of 'Islam and Nazi Germany's War' in Mehdi Falahati's show (in Persian; from min. 24), with the brilliant @arashtehran.bsky.social: www.youtube.com/watch?v=cAUP...
