Baby zombies are rare, baby zombies riding something even rarer, but it occasionally happens

It's not that it's going to trick me, it's that I have to spend time verifying everything now and so it's just more friction in my day that I just... don't need.

And some authors are just shutting off their ability to be reached, but speaking gigs still add to my bottom line, so I can't... grr

Yep, I get this in my prof inbox, and I get it in my writing inbox.

Gah

:( sorry

Yep, but it's just more unpaid labor that we have to do now *sigh*

1 day ago 1 0 1 0

It eats up time I don't have, and it means I take longer to respond to email because I'm getting 5-10 a day.

Just dispiriting and annoying.

Yeah, and mostly what it does is just eat up our time and destroys trust in the process

So be careful out there, scammers are using legit writers conferences to try and get you to pay them to play.

Double check the email address carefully. I have to assume we're going to start assuming @gmail.com or anything like that to be scammers.

It's wild out there folks.

A whole new scam aimed at writers:

- get an email from a writers conference asking for you as a speaker
- google the conference: it's real
- say 'yeah, let's do it'
- the 'fee' is mentioned for the first time
- you check with friends listed for the event and find out the email reply address is fake

no worries, I missed that post, I've been barely skimming socials of late, I've been head down to protect myself. Caught a case of covid last month, still digging out

I'm not only blown away it's a finalist, but the company it's keeping it's a great who's who of recent short story writers, so this middle-career dude is truly honored to be in the running in his 3rd decade of short story writing.

So many other great stories. Lucky company. Again. Wow.

Woah, that's amazing. Thank you, everyone, for backing the story for an award. That... means a lot. I fought Long Covid hard to write it, just finishing it was a huge personal win. To publish it another. This is the cherry on top. Thanks for any who voted, and wow.

Dude, literally the first snarky thought to cross my mind was to post what you just did. Props.

I need to turn that into a formal article and see if anyone would want to run it. I really want the concept out there more

Asahi Linux Porting Linux to Apple Silicon

Really want to head out away from supporting Silicon Valley. But my 2020 M1 Mac mini is still a daily driver and that is impressive for a barebones cheap computer to still be crushing it 6 years after I purchased it? The hardware is soooo good.

asahilinux.org may be my direction. Dunno.

I just read these articles, and they landed really close to home. Shivers.

And yeah, writing doesn't get better nor do I write more during the grinding bits, it's hard to get things done when you're just trying to make it through the day.

Yeah, we don't to lose those things!

But seeing a growing percentage of students struggle with phones in the middle of class as if it's an addiction, I am starting to suspect it may be necessary at some point?

Curious to see how this all plays out over the next few decades.

Realizes it's April 1st.

Sigh.

Not this year. Don't have it in me, man.

Seems wise, at this point.

If I were a uni admin, I'd make them cloistered from screens today as well, which is why universities had a residency away from home aspect: to get you away from the distractions and to focus on studies.

First uni to go no screens will be interesting

Strikes me as kind of a big deal, like the tobacco law suits that found out they knew it was addictive, and designed to be addictive.

More and more I'm seeing social media use equated to something like tobacco usage.

I'm starting to think that's an appropriate model.

(he says, posting on socials)
