Almost a third of children in the UK (27%) are living in poverty. This is completely unacceptable, we need more investment from the government to tackle this emergency.
Our research has shown that 65% of children facing financial hardship feel their aspirations aren’t possible.
Watching the Oscars last night made us think about all the children and young people we’ve supported in getting into the arts!
We give grants to pay for ballet lessons 👀, drama classes and more. Having the chance to learning new things is important for childhood, so it’s important to us!
‘We need to talk about estrangement’- we couldn’t agree more!
Cutting ties with your family for your own safety leaves you in a really tough place. That's why we give financial support to estranged young people, to help them get a fair short at life.
The power of hearing directly from children and young people is huge. We gave them the tools to draw how they felt about the impact of their grant, and the results left us stunned.

We’re celebrating our amazing team at Buttle! Last week, we mapped out our future and were inspired by our Youth Advisory Panel, who reminded us why putting young people at the heart of our work matters. Here’s to another year of impact and championing what matters in childhood!
Financial support changes the lives of children & young people. We asked children & young people to share, through drawings and words, how Buttle grants changed their lives. Their stories show the power of everyday things. See here: https://buttleuk.org/impact-reports/beyond-words/
We’ve rebranded! At Buttle, we know small things, a warm coat, a safe bed, a laptop, can mean everything in childhood. Our new look and Frank the Otter reflect our commitment to delivering what matters, when it matters most.

With the cost of living rising, many parents can’t afford trips or activities for their kids. That's why we’ve spent £35,319 on social activities and days out this year so far, an average of £254 per family or young person. Every child deserves a chance for fun and friendship.
Today the Bill to end the two-child limit starts to make its way through Parliament.
The policy is responsible for driving child poverty to its current record high. Poverty has a devastating impact on young lives.
We’ve joined 65 other orgs in asking all MPs to support this Bill.
Life in the UK has changed since 2016:
🔸 Child poverty: 29% ➡️ 31% (JRF)
🔸 Zoo ticket: £24.95 ➡️ £35 (ZSL)
🔸 School uniform: £250 ➡️ £454 (Guardian & R.I.S.E)
Families face real challenges. Buttle UK is here to help children in crisis. 💜 #ChildPoverty #CostOfLiving
Emily’s journey shows the impact of support. After being kicked out at 18, she faced months of sofa surfing. With a Buttle UK grant, she found stability, tried new sports, baked, and got a fresh haircut, now she’s ready to start university!
One week. Two reports.
Again, showing that the care system is failing - and it's children and young people paying the price.
But this can be fixed. We need a national strategy to create the right homes where children can grow and feel safe.

Great news! Now let's get the same for estranged young people as well 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
We spoke to BBC Morning Live about the children living in bed poverty across the UK.
The cost of living keeps rising, and we need to ensure that rest and dignity are rights, not luxuries.

Temporary accommodation isn’t a solution.
Every 12 minutes, a family in England becomes homeless - placed in temporary accommodation that can be unsafe.
Right now, a record-breaking 350,480 people are living in such circumstances.
This is homelessness, hidden behind closed doors.
1 in 153 people in England are homeless.
We’ve launched a new interactive map with esure, letting you explore the homelessness figures for your local area👇
Homelessness affects almost every part of the country.

Shocking new research from Shelter. We hear from support workers everyday who tell us about children coming to school without the uniforms and supplies they need. We must do better by them

We urge the government to continue to raise its ambitions: because no child in the UK should have to grow up in poverty.”
By ending the two-child limit (a policy which pulled families into poverty) the government has taken a decision that will fundamentally improve the futures of children across the country. This progress matters, but it cannot be the end point.
The new Tackling Child Poverty Strategy signals a long-overdue change of direction, committing to lift 550,000 children out of hardship.
