Posting again for #Microbiology tag - our paper came out today in Cell Reports!! We characterized the vaginal microbiota of transmasculine individuals and the neovaginal microbiota of transfeminine individuals, testing for associations with local immune correlates and self reported symptoms

I am delighted to share that two articles describing the transmasculine and transfeminine arms of the TransBiota study have been published in Cell Reports! I look forward to seeing how this work will improve the care offered to individuals accessing gender-affirming care!
yes because it’s slop lol
our brains weren’t built to withstand modern media, with 24 hours a day full of horrors
protect your autonomy by respecting your limits
if there are too many negative posts, your limbic system may be flooded, your capacity for logic goes down, you become vulnerable to manipulation, propaganda, or you may simply become frozen

My mentee in undergrad has a 3.9 GPA in biology and wants to do her PhD at Stanford in the microbiology department. She found her dream lab. Can my community help us? She's so talented and I really want this for her! She has accomplished so much against all odds. Please share.

Concerned that we are losing the necessary ratio. 15% of teachers/faculty should be irretrievably strange eccentrics. Every learning experience should have some element where in later life you can reflect with former classmates about how bizarre at least one (1) class per year was.
Did the first week of my first full time semester kick my butt so far? Absolutely. Am I still going to the Ren Faire with my wife this weekend? Also absolutely
Honestly fantastic advice
This is also a good description of grad school.
A plot isn’t “something happens and then something else happens”
A plot is “what do you want”
“What are you willing to do to get it”
“What unspeakable, shameful part of your soul are you willing to walk up to in the darkness and name”
“This is me, this is me, this is me”
That is a plot
Got to pet a baby goat at department potluck today - it's good to be a Mustang at Stevenson University!!
Out today in @nature.com: Together with the Honigmann, Shevchenko, Drobot and Hof labs, we present a general workflow for imaging the localization and transport of individual lipids in cells and mapping their metabolism.

We are alarmed by the Administration’s actions to freeze science funding and eliminate DEI efforts and climate change initiatives, which go against AGU’s mission and harms our members. We must unite to address these changes, beginning by hearing from you.

Happy Black History Month! I’m not sure if ASM is celebrating this year, so I’ll share some links to ASM resources I had previously collated on black women in microbiology that are now deleted (or at risk of being deleted). Deleted content can be viewed via the internet archive (links provided).
