Having been through some of the worst abuses a person can go through, I don't fuck with despair. That's learned helplessness, a quicksand that absolves you from taking control of your own life. But many people don't *want* to take action. They want to wallow.

Some people believe that being miserable is a sign of valor, thanks to centuries of ingrained Puritanism. Suffering touches divinity; optimism makes you a stupid idiot sap. Thus, the more they twist and cry out, the smarter and godlier they must be.
