My PhD in Philosophy is from PSU 1988; my MS in paleoclim from INSTAAR was in 1996. After that: 8 years for USGS as a consultant on policy.

Looking back to my time at INSTAAR, I'm struck by the weird timeline: a lot of the work was framed in terms of the yr 2100, when we all would be dead.

there is nothing intrinsically good about science. Science that leads to bad ends is bad science. 'Guns don't kill people...' ? We don't see a lot of drive by knifings.
