To everyone that I've flipped off for driving a Tesla: I'm sorry, it's not personal, I promise, except that I'm not sorry, it IS personal, and I hate YOU, personally

I thought about making a Bluesky account for Plasma Canvas but I'd honestly rather not, so here's me telling you that my band is opening for Laura Jane Grace & The Mississippi Medicals, Alex Lahey and Noun!

German Opposition Gambles With Far-Right on Immigration, and Loses

German Opposition Gambles With Far-Right on Immigration, and Loses Friedrich Merz and his Christian Democrats broke a political taboo by working with the hard-right Alternative for Germany to toughen rules on immigration. It did not pay off.

In an effort to portray himself and his party as tough on immigration, Friedrich Merz, the leader of the poll-leading Christian Democrats, pushed a series of measures tightening borders and accelerating deportations through Parliament this week. He did so with help from the hard-right Alternative for Germany party, or AfD — parts of which have been classified as extremist by German intelligence agencies.

On Friday, the gambit ended in a crushing legislative defeat for Mr. Merz, dissent in his own party and jubilant claims of new legitimacy from the AfD, a chain reaction that could rattle Mr. Merz’s comfortable seat at the top of the polls.

Mr. Merz’s willingness to rely on support from the AfD, broke a taboo in German politics that had endured since the end of World War II.

Lessons to be learned:

1. Centrists align with far-right to look tough on immigration
2. Centrists gain nothing
3. Far-right wins more power

Nostalgia is unfairly maligned. Until there's a future we should be able to listen to nineties rock guilt free

Dems got us here. Bernie was the front runner. Average people lost faith in Democrats because they saw how hard the DNC worked to stop him and the progressive policy he championed. Biden was never up to the task. He failed bc he delivered jack shit to poor and working class people.

The problem is that Facebook (and Meta later) has been so calculated about buying out competitors and imitating the features they offered. TimeHop became Memories, Stories were taken from Snapchat, and then we got Threads as a half-assed attempt at Twitter. Can't beat it? Clone it.

#TikTok being banned and then brought back is either a move to undermine trust in the only major platform not owned by Meta/X, or to do a bunch of shady stuff to its algorithms and data collection while it was gone, or both.

Was talking to my partner about how I wanna do a cover song, but something at least 20 years old. They started naming a bunch of stuff from 2005 but obviously that's only like ten years ago

And then it hit me, and I was humbled

TikTok got banned for oil.

There are a lot of steps, but TikTok users defended the humanity of Palestinians, which looks bad on Israel, which is the US' military stronghold in the Middle East, which is where all the oil is. That's why Israel does whatever it wants, with unlimited US bombs.

Art, by definition, is made by humans. AI "art" doesn't exist. It's not a tool like a paintbrush. Humans turn prompts into art. You can't put a computer where a human should be, and say you made "art" when you just typed some words. AI can generate an image, but it will never be able to create art.

I don't see much point in arguing which elderly racist white man is technically responsible for this particular fuckup

The image shows a TikTok office building with the TikTok logo prominently displayed in the foreground. Above the building, there is a "Spirit Halloween" banner featuring a cartoon grim reaper. The juxtaposition humorously suggests that the TikTok office has been taken over or replaced by a Spirit Halloween store.

That was fast.

If and when TikTok comes back (it absolutely will, it's too valuable not to), it will be run by fascists and used to do their bidding - just like Meta. That is the only way the US government won't deem it a threat to national security, especially under a second, emboldened Trump admin. Truly dark.

So tired of hearing about Caputo's detransition, and even more annoyed knowing that Meta is only platforming the story because it contributes to their transphobic narrative

Wanting to process, through art, the specific harm I endure for being trans

VS.

Not wanting to be reduced to my transness at all, let alone in my art

Even in Death, Navalny Still Threatens the Putin Regime The opposition leader’s posthumous memoir is a chronicle of a death foretold.

The point isn’t to pat ourselves on the back because we have it better. It’s to remember that if people like Navalny are willing to risk imprisonment, torture, and death to resist an evil empire, there is no excuse for us to back down.
