Online abuse of politicians is a profitable business Senator Eileen Flynn's comments on far-right use of the tricolour have made her a lightning rod for online abuse — because viral hatred is highly profitable

Monetisation and algorithmic amplification has turned peddling disinformation, hate speech, and harassment into a for-profit industry.

It will only get worse if it's left unchecked.

This is a genuinely mindblowing combination. 1) Deliberately false information, 2) promoted in schools, 3) using public money, 4) in the service of private profits, 5) at the cost of our collapsing ecosystem.

The Money Is Not There Three collapses in a weekend the blockade ended — notes on the government, the opposition, and the tradition I write from

Follow-up to “The Blockade Is the Message” is up.
3 collapses in a weekend the blockade ended:
📌a gov’t that found €750m for a tractor but not €100m for disability
📌an opposition that filed the right motion on the wrong grounds
📌a tradition claimed by people it was built against

I'm looking forward to presenting at this on the hope of Seed Sovereignty& Farmers' rights &hearing all involved. Much work to do in Ireland to address the inequities, environmental harm&missed opportunities of our globalised industrial ag system & threat it now poses to our food security.

"The paid Facebook ad, the trucker-convoy framing, the infrastructure-obstruction model, the international amplifier pipeline. These are not neutral tools the left can pick up and use better. They are a specific political technology developed over the last 2 years by a specific organising tendency."

And because the Govt. majority on the Oireachtas Infrastructure Committee voted to avoid the pre-legislative scrutiny process, TDs and Senators cannot even question the Government's rationale for targeting the Climate Action Act, and why this Bill is being steamrolled through the Oireachtas (2/2)

The Critical Infrastructure Bill as drafted will be the death of the Climate Action Act.

It will mean that major projects in areas like energy and transport - some of the biggest building projects in the State - will no longer be checked for their climate impact (1/2)

Affordable housing or car parks? The government have dictated that we zone more land for housing.

Do we zone land for private developers into the green belt or council land that can deliver affordable housing just minutes walk from jobs, Luas and amenities?

Investor courts are the main train to object to Mercosur or CETA. They are not intended to help people or nations at all. It's peak capitalism. Where all the rights are with corporations and the public good doesn't count at all. @greenparty.ie TD Patrick Costolloe took a supreme court against them.

This is a good article. It gives context to the insecurity of contractors&casual labourers at the heart of a globalised industrial Irish agricultural model, which no longer feeds us. However the ease at which racism, mysogyny &threat featured in this blockade also needs study& addressing.
