Flattery Paid Off for Apple When Cook Went to the White House The CEO’s approach to politics helped the company navigate tariffs and supply chain disruptions.

Today's Businessweek Daily: "Cook’s Washington diplomacy is arguably equally core to his legacy, his shrewd approach to politics helping Apple navigate supply chain crises, trade wars and, yes, the occasional expectations of ass-kissing fealty from Trump."

Worth your time: “Despite all of this, you know there is a line you can not cross. In part, it's because, journalistically, it is just wrong. But it's also about self-preservation.”

Trump’s Iran Deadline Nears, But His Aims Remain Unclear The president’s frustration is evident, but his claims of success are contradictory.

From @joshuagreen.bsky.social: Monday’s press conference was meant to convey Trump’s single-minded resolve. Instead, it highlighted his ambivalence. “We won, OK? They were militarily defeated,” he declared. Moments later he described a plan that suggested the war may just be getting started. (🎁)

I do love this part of having a teen. The Bear this week caught that a baseball article was an April Fool’s prank because the reporter’s name was misspelled, and Absolutely Our Child was my first thought.

There’s some kind of metaphor about style versus substance, watching the Yankees’ home opener introductions on YES. You can hear the music but not the names. 🤷‍♀️

A NASA photograph of Earth taken from the Artemis II mission by astronaut Reid Wiseman, displayed on a television screen. The full disk of Earth is centered against black space, showing the blue of the oceans, white cloud formations, and the reddish-brown landmass of Australia in the lower left. A thin luminous arc of atmosphere traces the planet’s edge. The NASA logo is partially visible in the upper right corner of the screen. The TV is framed by colorful ambient lighting in purple, pink, and orange.

My god.

I appreciate the Challenger footnote here because I very clearly remember NOT watching and finding out from a teacher who'd gone home for lunch that day. So it's my classmates who claim to remember watching who have the false memories.

Last night's dinner conversation turned to high school adventures that felt like freedom. Like one of the people quoted here, one of mine was going to Six Flags as soon as a friend was able to drive there.

Remembering ‘Uncle Ed’: Former Alligator general manager Ed Barber dies at 86 - The Independent Florida Alligator Alumni and former colleagues remember him as a mustachioed mentor, chili connoisseur and steadfast supporter of independent student journalism.

I knew Ed Barber just a bit thanks to my husband and other Alligator editors past. I think we can all do this today: "What would be the best way for student journalists to honor Barber’s legacy, according to Orlando? 'Meeting their deadlines,' he said."

Birthright Citizenship’s Origin Is Complicated. Its Meaning Isn’t. The lawmakers who wrote drafted the 14th Amendment in 1866 were looking to protect former slaves as well as the children of unpopular immigrants.

What I learned reading the 1866 Congressional debates about the citizenship clause. From last year, but I just made a gift link because (1) it's topical and (2) gotta use all those gift links by the end of the month. www.bloomberg.com/opinion/arti...
