New HIV cure approach forces hidden virus into tripping immune sensor. Even with antiretroviral drugs, latently infected cells may lead to chronic inflammation, quietly raising the risk of heart disease, cancer, and organ failure. Treatments that reduce reservoirs can change these outcomes.

I love R for everything statistics, but I've always been a little jealous of statisticians using SPSS Complex Samples or SAS SURVEYSELECT to design their samples.
So I decided to build samplyr, a tidy and pipe-friendly grammar for survey sampling design in #rstats.

"You’re at a conference. The lights are low, it’s the last speaker of the day, engagement has hit rock bottom. Phones come out...Re-imagine this setting, the lights are low, it’s the last act of the day, the band walks onto the stage, engagement goes through the roof. No one wants it to end."
@arcinstitute.org just announced an AI & Bio fellowship for undergrads!
I'm building a team of 2–3 to apply. My interests are in AI for oncology or genomics. Looking for teammates with deep learning/modeling experience.
If you are interested, send me a DM or reply below.

We’re working on a story about how children’s immune systems and microbiomes develop and we want to hear from you. Have you let your kids eat food that was dropped on the ground? 🍭 Argued with grandparents about cleanliness? 🧼 Saw your child do something incredibly gross? 🤢 Call us at 877 4 SCIFRI.
Imagine a computer that can translate thought to speech in under 1 second.

Pancreatic cancer is the third deadliest cancer. Treatment often fail due to resistance.
A new study in PNAS led by Mariano Barbacid tackles this with a triple combination therapy that induces robust tumor regression and prevents the onset of tumor resistance in mice.

A fossilized trilobite. This specimen, from the Burgess Shale, preserves "soft parts"—the antennae and legs. Dimly lit on one side, with bright light shining on the other side providing detail and contrast.
Why did life explode in complexity 538.8 million years ago?
Inspired by a friend's question, I wrote my first Substack deep-dive on the factors that ignited the Cambrian explosion.

What’s particularly exciting is the potential to combine mechanistic models with AI, especially for problems with limited data. Physics-informed neural networks (PINNs) let neural nets leverage physical laws, accelerating learning and improving predictive accuracy.
Mathematical oncology aims to model cancer to improve the delivery and efficacy of therapies. Broadly, models fall into two classes: mechanistic and AI-driven. Mechanistic models can be further divided into continuous and discrete/stochastic approaches.
