Associate with people who improve you

Seneca had a large circle of friends with whom he spent a lot of time. How did he choose these friends? His rule was this: “Associate only with those who will make a better man of you. Welcome those whom you yourself can improve.”

If you reach a goal by compromising your values, you haven’t succeeded.

If you fall short of a goal by upholding your values, you haven’t failed.

The highest form of accomplishment is standing by your principles when they’re tested.

Could you please explain how you see stoicism related to mental illness?

Go big or go home too often and you often end up home—stuck on the couch either injured, ill, exhausted, or burnt out. Go small and steady on the regular for a long period of time and you often end up with something big.

It’s wild that some of the richest ppl who ever lived, in one of the richest nations that ever existed, feel so completely “cheated” by some of the poorest nations in the world..

If it was in a book, I woulda considered it exaggerated for effect.

What a shame

I‘m trying to get an idea of the person who is on the other line - while asking technical and non-technical stuff.
I would imagine that there would be massive incoherences in terms of personality and connecting dots in complex scenarios. But would be interesting to look into this further.

Do you really think they could fake a good interview which checks for character, mindset and experience in complex scenarios, instead of just checking technical facts?

Some people soften the harshest reality with their presence.

How lucky to stumble upon such a soul; how warm they make you feel.

Also lack of appreciation and meaning.

Productivity is overrated. What counts most is the quality of output, not the quantity.

People may be impressed by the volume you produce, but impact depends on the value you create.

Success is not about getting more things done. It's about doing more worthwhile things well.

The most important quality in a mentor, teacher, or coach is not how much they know. It's how much they care.

Caring is more than taking pride in your success. It's feeling joy as you progress.

The people you want in your corner are the ones who celebrate your growth.

A game changer in hiring for me was when I realized, it’s about being sufficiently convinced that a person can thrive and succeed in this role.
And not just about „not“
finding ironclad evidence that the person would not succeed.

💯 Hiring for skills is shortsighted. Hiring for mindset, adaptability, growth & development potential and personality is winning the long game.
