After 130 years’ service, Haslemere signal box closes around midnight on Friday. The line will be closed for nine days to complete the resignalling programme and transfer control to the Rail Operating Centre, Basingstoke. The box will reopen as a heritage attraction in due course.

This is the signal box we are preparing to preserve. It’s been in service since 1895 … and we’re hoping to keep it ‘alive’ for a long time to come (although it won’t actually be controlling trains).
