This early access thing is going too far.
Just got TWO emails from different devs saying that their demos - yes DEMOS - had now been updated and were ready for a second look.
Folks, if your goddamn *demo* is not ready, maybe don't be in such a rush to show stuff off?
Just make your game.

two vampires snarling at each other, their weapons drawn and locked in combat. a female vamp on the left, with a male vampire on the right, each with gray skin and dark hair. a sunrise full of bats is behind them.
Up today at GameCritics.com, Konstantin Koteski reviews Legacy of Kain: Ascendance.
It's a surprise addition to the cult-fave series done in retro style.
Unfortunately, the middling platforming and lukewarm writing pale compared to the series' high points.

This is soooo adjacent but i was after Necromancer's Tale. But thanks!!
It was Necromancer's Tale, someone filled me in!
Hey folks, need an assist.
Looking for a "supernatural investigator" type game, E European flavor, third person (maybe fully isometric?) & has dialogue/choice sections vaguely like Disco Elysium.
It either came out recently or has not come out yet. Anybody know the game I'm thinking of?
awesome, thanks for the heads up!
it's a great one if you like Star Trek.. it was on my GOTY top 10 the year it came out!
was it from Limited Run or something similar? or was it a regular retail release?
A screenshot featuring the two leading characters from Star Trek resurgence, a woman and a man, both in Starfleet uniforms, each holding a piece of tech with stars and space in the background. The image is taken from an account called TrekCentral
Hey folks, heads up -- if you ever had any intention of playing Star Trek: Resurgence (which IMO was great!) you better grab it before it gets delisted, the publisher lost the license and it hasn't been renewed. It's going to be delisted from online stores soon and IIRC there is no physical.
hah! i wonder if they did that on purpose!
it's on my watch list! nice!
thanks for the share! <3
and which games?
A hand-painted image of the protagonist from ChainStaff, a human with a parasite-like alien perched on his shoulders and covering his head. He's holding a gun and a bio-organic spear while holding off a series of mutated animals like a huge tortoise and a set of fossilized dinosaur jaws descending from above

Yikes. 😬
Noticed that nobody in my immediate review circle has played Pragmata and our own review/PR request was flatly ignored, which is unusual.
Kinda tough not to see it as Epstein-coded given everything going on in the real world right now.
absolutely! will DM it to ya
1. US Median household income stats don't count people experiencing homelessness. And US homelessness peaked in 2024.
2. 48% of the US has no money left each month after paying rent and bills. None.
Preemptively announcing you are going to pardon your staff isn’t just rewarding criminals for their crimes—it’s encouraging them to commit new ones.

agree with that. it does feel like the devs took extra care in all aspects, and they didn't phone it in. haven't enjoyed one as much as this since Dragon's Crown way back when.
Started Absolum on GamePass. P cool, better than expected. Nice presentation, def.
Wish they incl "hold button to attack" tho. My fingers get worn out from the buttonmashing.
Not sure i'm gonna see it thru (depends on how much grinding they want a player to do) but i like it so far.

Up today at GameCritics.com, Eugene Sax offers up a video review of Love Eternal, from @ysbryd.net.
This challenging platformer shares a compelling narrative element, but does the physical demand of simply playing ask too much?

Caves of Qud is a wonderfully weird game that I will keep playing. If you want a puzzle box experience wrapped in a delightfully old school aesthetic, this is something you should check out.
a screenshot of a landscape map in pixel style. the image is incredibly dense with small details, and resembles a handful of confetti tossed onto a canvas, broken up only by blue lines that represent rivers.
Also up at GameCritics.com today, CJ Salcedo covers Caves of Qud and finds this dense, text-heavy roguelike to be a rich and compelling experience.

a screenshot taken in first-person view. the player's gun is visible and also seen are two teammates, each holding weapons while they aim at a large, demonic form in the distance. purple chains obscure part of the image, as though they're draped over the camera.
Up today at GameCritics.com, Ali Arkani covers the newest entry into the Painkiller series and finds that this attempt to revive the IP fails to hit the mark.

The US membership in NATO is a facade. Another year of unstable Trumpism and I expect NATO will formalize the divorce. NATO will be weaker as a result but not as weak as it is with Trump inside the tent. You can't have a military alliance when one member openly talks about conquering other members.
Having trouble focusing on emails knowing that our dementia-addled, servant-of-Russia pedophile president is threatening the nuclear annihilation of innocent people, and that the folks who actually have the ability to stop him don't seem to be doing anything.
Can't tell you how many members of Congress who *at best* had nothing to say when I asked about the Minab girls school attack. There is a profanely cold detachment inside Capitol Hill, a mode completely unrecognizable to common human decency I wish I could properly convey to you.
